when anybody asked who my favorite was: Jaclyn Smith - the young actress that played "Kelly Garrett" on the show-
was to me always the
back in the days when that one with the red bathing suit was all but ubiquitious.
plus I guess I just prefer brunettes anyway. To each their own... I'll take this one, no problem lads:
Enjoy your weekend, FReeper patriots-
You know how I know you’re old? What’s the over under that you got to school in the snow uphill, both ways? I keed, I keed
Then the next scene had Kate, Farrah and Jaclyn in it..........oh, right, that's why Kate was the "brainy, not as glamorous one". As they say, everything is relative.
Bailey...definitely!
Chrissy
Yes, I thought of Ms. St. John a few seconds after I hit the "Post" button. I've only seen her in the Bond movie. She was very, very pretty.
I believe it was in a scene in Diamonds Are Forever that the villian gazes at her -- as she walks away from him in a bikini -- and says, under his breath, "if only they were brains." Funny irony. I suspect Broccoli had the line put in on purpose. Inside joke.
I also remember St. John from the bad sci-fi film The Lost World (around 1960) when she was very young.
After Diamonds I can't recall seeing her anywhere.
Jan Smithers, the secretary on WKRP in Cincinnati was another one:
Definitely not a Chi- Hua- Hua
Launch when ready!
Didn't she do one or two movies with Dean Martin or with the Rat Pack? Would've been before Diamonds.
Let's see...
Oh, I guess I'm thinking of Tony Rome, in which she appeared opposite Frank Sinatra. 1967. Quite a time in Hollywood.
I think one of the things about the very smart actresses is that they don't make as many stupid life choices as the more typical Hollywood cuties. As a result, they have more financial and personal options as they age, and they aren't willing to put up with the degree of Hollywood nonsense that the dumber ones, who have little choice in the matter.
That, and the fact that smart people find it more difficult to let go of self-consciousness -- their "inner eye" never blinks -- and this interferes with their ability to really give themselves entirely to a part.
Dittos!!
Your last paragraph — interesting theory. Could easily see it being true.
I think Jaclyn Smith is a conservative, and she also seems like a genuinely nice person.
She was very appealing in Bullitt, and in The Life and Times of Judge Roy Bean, in which she plays the daugter of the character played by Victoria Principal (kind of strange, but it's only a movie).
She doesn't get enough screen time in either, particularly in Bullitt, but she's a heartbreaker even so. Also, in Bullitt, she doesn't have to cover up her beautiful English accent.
Me neither, I HATE remakes
HATE
just when I thought I couldnt possibly love Michele any more...
My grandad married Karen Valentine’s mom in my living room. Karen was there with her husband for the ceremony. Nice lady. I was six or so at the time.
Marriage didn’t last 18 months. I’ve seen pictures of Karen and husband sitting on a davenport in our living room.
We always watched ‘Room 222’.
There are exceptions, of course. Rare but spectacular. I'm thinking here of Meryl Streep in The Deer Hunter. Ms. Streep is not in the same league, beauty-wise, as Jill St. John, but her character (Linda) is heart-rending and unforgettable. I don't know where Ms. Streep ranks in terms of IQ points, but I think she's no dummy.
I know she's a big lefty, but so was Steve Jobs.
>About a dozen Benny Hill girls
Milk almost came out my nose laughing so hard!! But how true !!
Louise English was my favorite “Benny Hill” girl. Ive been trying to google/youtube the cruise ship scene where she sang “Pour un flirt avec toi.” But I can’t find it :-(
