Romney has had a big boost from the Republican establishment, which decided a while back he's the serious candidate with a chance of beating President Obama.
The establishment also decided that upending Texas Gov. Rick Perry's chances is the best way to ensure a Romney victory, since none of the other candidates in the race are very serious and the establishment utterly failed in coaxing NJ Gov. Chris Christie into the race.
Cain and Romney are also buddies. Cain endorsed Romney last time around and Romney finds various ways to praise Cain, even going so far as telling a NH crowd the other day that they could feel comfortable voting for him OR Cain.
Cain is in a position to play kingmaker, throwing his support to Romney at a critical juncture and putting him over the top, especially if the lower level right-wingers (Bachmann, Santorum) continue to hang around and leech out some of Perry's Tea Party support.
When you put all these factors in with Republicans' traditional habit of putting in the candidate they consider most electable, even if they're not thrilled about him, a la John McCain, itâs very difficult to see how Romney doesn't win the nomination.

Neat slogan the ad agency came up with.
Too bad Rick is too dumb to remember the words (since there are more than three).
Because Romney is only a threat if some fake conservative like Perry is siphoning votes away from a real conservative.
Perry is the threat that needs to be dealt with. He is at best a 2nd tier candidate at this point and you people are hell bent on giving the nod to Romney.
Speaking of tag teaming, there are a couple who troll Perry threads for a living, having no one in the game to be excited for elsewhere I guess.
Exactly. A lot of the Perry supporters seem to pearl clutch “Why isn’t Cain attacking Romney, only Perry?! Why do Cain supporters only attack Perry, not Romney? Are they in cahoots?!”
Time for a dose of common sense. This forum is 100% conservative. 100% of conservatives don’t support Myth. Therefore, nobody here likes him. Those that do are promptly shown the door. In other words, attacking Romney here is preaching to the choir. Similarly, Cain would gain nothing by attacking Myth, as his base of support (the 25-30% of the GOP that is not conservative) would never vote for Cain anyway. Perry had the lion’s share of the conservative vote before he showed his true colors, therefore it’s much more beneficial for Cain (and his supporters) to go after Perry.
Yes, and we should alway listen to Kristol because he’s such a reliable guy!
A lot of dreaming in there. I will pass and not endorse a new tax.
It isn’t a new tax. It’s a new tax system, as the current one will be entirely scrapped.
Please don't become those people that said this same stuff about Palin threads and their detractors. That was bad news and we don't need more of it.
Hey, McGavin! Those bored with Cain have dropped in on the Perry threads for the last several days, to play trick or treat early, have you noticed? It’s good practice though, since Cain has peaked, Romney has stalled and Perry is getting some press. Not bad for an 8 week campaign loaded with cash, eh.
Well, Marie...he has been suspect since day one, we’re watching him. Too new, this is Romney’s tactic...sends hordes into conservative web sites an immediately starts attacking everything Perry.
“You know Clairity, I finally figured out who you are ... Anita Perry.”
No, I am not, but I definitely take that as a compliment.
I watched her speak and she is one smart and very nice lady and will make a First Lady we can all be proud of, unlike the current occupant of the WH.
Thank you for reminding me. I do not want to be anything like Palin supporters. EVER.
Considering Romney and Bush were in the same Class at Harvard business, it wouldn’t surprise me one bit.
“Well, Marie...he has been suspect since day one, were watching him. Too new, this is Romneys tactic...sends hordes into conservative web sites an immediately starts attacking everything Perry.”
Wow.
I went through every one of this guy’s posts and I’ve seen some heavy criticism of Romney and strong support for Cain.
M’thinks you’re tilting at windmills.
Don't look now, but you're supporting someone who's polling somewhere between the Ebola Virus and Buddy Roemer in important primary states.
NO...others have been saying the same thing to me. OF course, he/she would post against Romney. TOO NEW immediately posting against Perry. Very suspect. I am seeing this at other forums...hordes of Romney supporters pretending to support others. Knock down the one Romney is the most afraid of.
Let’s face it, while Romney might be MSM and the Republican establishment’s favorite, they would MUCH rather have Perry the nominee than Cain, Bachmann or Santorum.
At this point it is rather, “Keep supporting Perry and help Romney.”
This is silly. Perry is no conservative adn he’s one of the Establishment’s candidates, sent to chase conservatives away from the conservative candidates.
You want us to support Perry, who is in the tank for Romney?
