Romney has had a big boost from the Republican establishment, which decided a while back he's the serious candidate with a chance of beating President Obama.
The establishment also decided that upending Texas Gov. Rick Perry's chances is the best way to ensure a Romney victory, since none of the other candidates in the race are very serious and the establishment utterly failed in coaxing NJ Gov. Chris Christie into the race.
Cain and Romney are also buddies. Cain endorsed Romney last time around and Romney finds various ways to praise Cain, even going so far as telling a NH crowd the other day that they could feel comfortable voting for him OR Cain.
Cain is in a position to play kingmaker, throwing his support to Romney at a critical juncture and putting him over the top, especially if the lower level right-wingers (Bachmann, Santorum) continue to hang around and leech out some of Perry's Tea Party support.
When you put all these factors in with Republicans' traditional habit of putting in the candidate they consider most electable, even if they're not thrilled about him, a la John McCain, itâs very difficult to see how Romney doesn't win the nomination.

Cain will not be the nominee, you can count on that.
That’s why he didn’t last long in the primary for POTUS in 2008. He endorsed Romney BEFORE Huck withdrew from the race if that tells you snything.
The inherent flaw with that logic is that it assumes that the Democraps wouldn’t be able to raise taxes with the current tax code if they had control. They would. The threat of them raising taxes will ALWAYS be there, regardless of the plan. It is not at all specific to Cain’s.
You know Herman Cain is a terrific guy and give him a good look, Romney said of the former chief executive of Godfathers Pizza. Im not going to try to convince you that my private-sector experience is better than his.
On the same team because YOU said so??? I'm not buying it.
With all the baggage that Romney is dragging around - he'd come across as pretty stupid to bad mouth Cain. Romney has changed his game & is doing his best to make himself appear to be a Conservative.
A pretty dangerous game when Cain actually IS a Conservative!!
That’s quite an assertion to make about the current frontrunner, no?
I noted ‘him’ 4 days ago, Wednesday, from his posts ranting against Perry, - immediately using other posters anti Perry graphics and all the little ‘Perrywinkle’ and other keywords. Most n00bs don’t start out that strong!! A number of others signed up the same time....
A vote for Perry is a vote for Romney.
I am not going to even bother with you. I know that many FReepers have cited sources showing Cain’s criticism of Romney many, many times.
I also know that Perry supporters do not care about the truth.
Why give them another avenue? Especially one that involves food and clothes. If I am going to be forced to give up all my write offs, the trade had better work in my favor. I don’t see how this one does.
Cain himself said so. He said he would be willing to be VP, but not for Perry — so who else is there, except Romney?
And this article provides information, if you would bother to read it.
And where would Ann Coulter get the Romney/Cain 2012 idea?
The handwriting is not only on the wall, it’s flashing in bright colors — Cain is in it to divide the conservative vote, to help Romney.
“Well, then why arent our so-called conservative candidates trying to expose Romney instead of going after a candidate who is no threat. This is crazy.”
Because there aren’t many Romney supporters shilling for him on FR. Nothing to push against.
As Bill Kristol said, while Establishment Republicans would be happier with Romney, they are fine with Perry because they know he won't let the party become “too conservative.”
Coulter's Conservative personna is pretty much down the drain. She's throwing out a bone to Conservatives by even mentioning Cain.
Cain is polling tied or higher than Romney - so much for him being VP to a loser.
On Perry threads it is highly unlikely that you have a shred of infuence, other than to needle which is fine if you want a verbal brawl. There are, however, Cain threads where you could bore each other to oblivion on his ascent to polishing the apple for Romney.
Even with the sales tax, the middle class (read: those who don’t benefit from welfare/corporate welfare/tax loopholes) will be paying less than with the current tax code. Also, I highly doubt even the Dims would be stupid enough to raise the sales tax. For one, it would destroy their welfare collecting base, and turn any of the middle class that wasn’t already against them against them. So either they could not touch the tax, or they can touch it, die as a party for a generation, and it will be returned to normal after the next election.
Hopefully, we can stop you Perry fanatics from electing Romney and make you eat those words.
Right...the Cain is helping Romney narrative. Is that the best the Perry supporters have? It might’ve had SOME influence, but now that Cain is the current frontrunner it’s just laughable people are still trying to peddle it.
PAConservative1 doesn’t agree with *you* so he’s what? A Romney agent?
Why don’t we allow him to post for a bit before we make an assumption?
