Actually I believe it is Rove who initiated the set approach to garnering the required votes for an election victory. Now the Democrats also practice that math. Computer power makes it possible.
Unfortunately it is entirely sycophancy. Rove is the perfect example, forget the principles of human dignity, respect, and responsibility, just go for the Ego massage of the electorate. Truly truly despicable people in Washington DC.
Thus the Tea Party.

I prefer "Democratic leadership and operatives" in the very center portion of the diagram. Just my humble opinion.
I realize that many "plain old" democrat voters fall into that center portion of the diagram too.
However, others are simply deceived by a steady diet of indoctrination (tradition handed down from friends and family), propaganda, biased news reporting, and self-righteous indignation, not to mention well-intentioned "feel-good" social engineering and environmentalism.
Gee, I think my list could go on and on.
