Messiah College invited socialist radical Frances Fox Piven to speak on "The Corporate War on the American People." Based on her past written articles and books, Piven and her husband Richard Cloward have become controversial figures in American politics. The infamous Cloward-Piven Strategy calls for the poor to rise up and overload the government rolls in order to collapse the free market system. The poor would force the government to establish a welfare state. Why would you be for overthrowing the most productive and successful economic system in world history?
Based on historical fact, the free market system has brought millions of people out of poverty. Two hundred years ago, 85 percent of the people living in the world lived on less than one dollar a day.
Today, 20 percent live on less than one dollar a day. If most of the world continues to follow the free market system, the number will be zero by the end of the 21st century. In her most recent article in The Nation on December 22nd, 2010, Frances Fox Piven has called for violence in her article "Mobilizing the Jobless." Piven states, "An effective movement of the unemployed will have to look something like the strikes and riots that have spread across Greece in response to the austerity measures forced on the Greek government by the European Union, or like the student protests that recently spread with lightning speed across England in response to the prospect of greatly increased fees." What kind of a person would promote violence as a way to accomplish political goals? What happened to using non-violence and civil disobedience as a means to achieve an end?
Consequently, Frances Fox Piven's views are dangerous and destructive to society. Now that you know about Piven's past, it is time to discuss the lecture she gave on Tuesday night. Public outcry ran through the internet about this event.
Even tonight before and after the event there were people who were furious. One lady afterward said, "I am disgusted that she was here talking." Piven came to talk about the democracy in America. However, that conversation quickly devolved into a slanted opinion that drew "boos" from the audience on more than one occasion.
Firstly, she stated that our Senate, which if voted by the people, is not a democratic institution. Rather she believes that the Senate is controlled by the elites, a subject that she referenced at every chance available.
She also accused the Republican Party from the 1890s who fought against the political machines, of being the reason why many people found voting to be a difficult thing to do. However, the statement that most people took offense to was when Piven stated that the Tea Party is anxious because, "they don't like that a black president was elected. . . they don't understand."
However, she later dodged a question about the Tea Party's high support of Herman Cain, a fellow African-American. That was not the only question she dodged that night. She also tried to scurry around defining the difference of her idea of "radical" democracy and socialism. When asked the question about her previous support of violent protests in her articles, she simply stated that she did not believe riots were violent, despite previous articles where she said that she does support violence. She further stated that she believes breaking a window, destruction of property, "is not the worst crime."
However, she should know that destruction of property is a crime none the less. Piven came tonight and while she intended to do good, quickly isolated the audience, and lost credibility. She made offensive inferences, and drew public anger. In response to Piven, the College Republicans have invited Jason Mattera, a young conservative author, to come and counter what she said. Mr. Mattera will be at Messiah on October 18th at 7pm in Frey Hall 110.
Listening to Rush right now. Will have to listen to this later.

“The Corporate War on the American People.” ????
These people are lunatics.
Beck & Co were giggling over this this morning on XM Patriot radio.
What I couldn’t figure out was why she was invited to speak at a place like Messiah College.
I loved the ‘Rosemary’s Baby’ and ‘Exorcist’ music accompaniment they added to Wallis’s and Piven’s voices. I was laughing so hard my sides hurt!
Based on her past written articles and books.
Pimping her goods for cash,so much for The Corporate War.
Do as I say not as I do,how socialist of her.

Government rolls? Is that something that you get with government cheese?
Also, these people don't think that we already have an established welfare state? Amazing.
The video has been pulled down.
I love Oldfields “Tubular Bells”.....
Although it was years before I could enjoy it just as a piece of music. without a bit of a shiver and a remembrance of pea soup.
Hehe! Ah, yes. The good, ol’ ‘pea souper’.
