On eve of debate, Rick Perry ‘pretty confident’ he’ll win
Houston Chronicle ^ | LYNN SHERR, Parade Magazine interview - Oct 23 issue

Posted on 10/11/2011 2:45:11 AM PDT by Cincinatus' Wife

...LYNN SHERR: Do you feel as if the other candidates have been ganging up on in the debates?

RICK PERRY:“When you come into the fray and you’re leading in the polls, you’re going to get attacked by everyone. I get it. I’m a big boy, and I know how to play that game. “

Your critics say you’re not electable...

“Well, I disregard that. Americans are looking for somebody to stand up and tell them the truth, and I have a record to back it up. Ultimately, if I can explain my heart, my jobs record, and my philosophy to Americans, I’m pretty confident that I’ll win.”

You’re a very successful fund-raiser....The word that’s been applied to you is “cronyism.”...

“That’s the same old, tired criticism which comes when people don’t want to talk about the real issues, like how do we create jobs......"Decisions in Texas are generally legislative, with the lieutenant governor, speaker, and governor making them together. There were no unilateral decisions from my office dealing with those issues. And I’ll go back to my record. I’ve been elected three times as governor. The people obviously have confidence in me.”

Your wife, Anita Perry,....

“She’s very smart and loyal. She’s not predisposed to be a public figure since she saw how her father, a small-town doctor, had to be shared with all these other people. She’s also a great patriot. “

Some of our recent presidents have admitted to experimenting with drugs...

“No, ma’am. Not unless you call caffeine a drug. Or cold beer or whiskey.”....

Perry opposes eVerify, claiming (in typical faux-folksy Slick Rick style) that it wouldn't have more effect "than a hill of beans." Actually he's against it precisely because it would discourage hiring of illegals.

Perry enthusiastically backed using taxes from legal native American Texans to provide subsidized tuition for illegal residents. That's beyond any dispute.

So there, I've "documented" my "accusations."

And Sinsinatus' Wife, why didn't you look up the spelling of Cincinatus before you chose your forum name? Why didn't you check Perry's actual sleazy record before you agreed to become his monotonous shill on FR?

--- Maintaining an equal balanced playing field for the citizens and for our society ----- is SOCIALISM.

That's what I thought of when I saw that quote. Herman Cain is going to wither once he gets the kind of scrutiny they are giving Perry now. But the whole strategy right now is to get Perry out - by using the affable Herman Cain. Do these strident Cain supporters even realize how they are being used? Useful tools, much like the participators in the Occupy protests - being used as pawns in a much bigger scheme that they willfully refuse to even contemplate.

Cain is working with Romney - I have no doubt that he has been promised to be on Romney's short list for VP. To say that he would be happy to be on Romney's ticket, but not Perry's - WHAT KIND OF CONSERVATISM IS THAT?

Cain's 9-9-9 plan will be torn to pieces if Perry is knocked out of the race - he will not be able to counter the opposition - he has no money. When does he have to release his money figures? What kind of super-businessman can't raise funds for a campaign?

So, I guess you don’t like hearing things Herman Cain believes in.

. I never mentioned Cain and I won't address your Alinskyite inquiry as means to deflect Perry's lack of conservatism. Did the Perry campaign staff teach you that trick during your indoctrination as a shill?

When you provide LINKS to what you assert, I will look at them and respond. Your “documentation” stands as a big fat ZERO.

There is no "Alinskyite" inquiry -- I asked you to respond to his quote and I provided a link to a video so you can hear it in context.

There is no other answer than -- socialism and reparations. If you have a different take, please provide it.

Don't attack me. Just answer the question.

More BS...pure assumption on your part...just playing a guessing game...

This information comes from FReeper Casinva.

Here are some more groups opposing e-verify:

The Rutherford Group

From: http://www.rutherford.org/articles_db/commentary.asp?record_id=731

(Excerpt)

As technology grows more sophisticated and the American government and its corporate allies further refine their methods of keeping tabs on citizens, those of us who treasure privacy increasingly find ourselves engaged in a struggle to maintain our freedoms in the midst of the modern surveillance state.

The latest attack on our right to anonymity and privacy comes stealthily packaged in the form of so-called job protection legislation. Introduced by House Judiciary Committee Chairman Lamar Smith (R-Texas) in June 2011, H.R. 2885 (formerly H.R. 2164), the “Legal Workforce Act,” is being marketed as a way to fight illegal immigration and “open up millions of jobs for unemployed Americans and legal immigrants.” However, this proposed federal law is really little more than a Trojan horse, a backdoor attempt by the powers-that-be to inflict a de facto National ID card on the American people.

Created under the auspices of securing the borders and preventing illegal immigrants from being hired for “American” jobs, E-Verify challenges the rights of the individual, the rights of labor and the rights of industry. As such, this is not a left or right issue. Anyone who values civil liberties should be alarmed.

(snip)

Furthermore, due to the sensitive information contained in the database, it would be a huge target for hackers and identity thieves, while doing little to curb the flow of illegal immigration or illegal immigrants getting jobs. Indeed, with a stolen or faked identity, anyone could bypass the system and secure employment.

(snip)

This legislation poses even greater threats to privacy, free speech and free association and potentially hinders Americans’ ability to travel freely. Because the E-Verify system would apply to everyone eligible to work in the United States and will grow to include biometrics such as fingerprints, DNA and iris scans, it will be used for a host of other purposes by the intelligence community, law enforcement and corporate America.

(snip)

Despite assurances to the contrary, E-Verify will become a de facto National ID system. Such a database with vast pools of personal information directly tied to individuals shared across a multitude of government agencies would give the government an alarming amount of control over the average citizen

E-VERIFY FACING UNEXPECTED OPPOSITION FROM CONSERVATIVE, TAXPAYER & TEA PARTY GROUPS: Media Campaign Launched Today with First National Ad & Letter to Congress

September 15, 2011

From: http://www.alipac.us/ftopict-250051.html

(Excerpt)

An ad hoc coalition of almost 30 conservative, Tea Party and limited government groups representing millions has launched a national media campaign against a bill that would make E-Verify mandatory for all businesses. They have also sent a letter to Congress outlining their concerns, according to Take Back Washington

(snip)

Michael D. Ostrolenk, National Director of the Liberty Coalition, who has been working against E-Verify since it was introduced, says the effort coalesced in just two weeks after he approached Tea Party and conservative groups and found out that there were serious misconceptions about how E-Verify would work and it’s effectiveness.

I had so hoped that when Palin announced her non-candidacy, we would finally see an end to the blind worship, loyalty that cannot be questioned, over-the-top hysterical support of a “good-talking” candidate.

Sigh...

They’ve transferred to another idol. It’s the same thing all over again & it makes me sick. Hold Perry accountable for everything - but gloss over Cain’s faults. These people are absolutely incapable of playing anything but checkers - not a clue of how chess is played - and they are being played to a “T” by Romney.

It’s frightening to see it played out on the left - horrifying to see it played out on the right.

NautiNurse, That was a kind thing to say about how Perry answered those questions. I know I can only speak for myself, but I know you haven’t been too keen on Perry, and that’s why I wanted to show some words of gratitude for your graciousness shown in your post.

CW, those might not have been the questions that are telling about the issues, but those were questions that are telling about the man. In BOTH ways, Governor Perry has Obama beat by leaps and bounds.

I’m looking forward to the debate tonight. I hope Perry is prepared.

You know, Cain will be front and center next to Romney because he’s second in the polls. Romney knows Cain is a threat. The media now recognizes Cain as a contender. Some of the more rabid Cain supporters are about to get a taste of their own medicine.

I haven’t heard of any CainCare either.

Maybe he / she is referring to the empowerment zones that are part of Herman Cain’s 999 plan. I don’t know, but there might be some health care for low income in that too. I had not heard. I’m just wondering as health care for low income and poverty could possibly fit into the social services / welfare parts of Cain’s 999 empowerment zone services to low income and minorities, I would think.

Since I was hearing Cain talk about “empowerment zones”, I had to go do some research to find out more about them. I was not really familiar with them.

Here’s what they are, and I’ve included a link at the end to read - for those who don’t understand that part of Cain’s 999 revenue plans and vision.

The agencies and programs associated with the empowerment zones that come with Cain’s 999 plan would need to be a kind of combination of Housing and Urban Development combined with Health and Human Services - a very complex social service system and tax break program for low income people.

I’m thinking we would have to have a new federal agency for it, or perhaps they would put it in with federal welfare programs and just expand whatever federal agency administrates those things. They would definitely have to hire some directors and administrators to handle the new social programs, minority business start ups, and the urban renewal and sustainability contracts, etc.

When you realize the empowerment zones are really about the people in a poverty area and not the physical location alone, you can understand why the blacks would get more benefits from that program. I think Herman Cain referenced that areas such as many of the neighborhoods in Detroit in particular would receive a lot of benefits from such a program.

Basically, empowerment zones are meant to “empower the people” living in low income, mostly minority neighborhoods.

Here’s a great link on what empowerment zones are. It includes a history of them too from way back and includes a lot of the work Bill Clinton did to try to implement and development empowerment zones during his term(s).
