Mitt Romney remains the unquestioned frontrunner in New Hampshire, according to a pair of recent polls, but Atlanta businessman Herman Cain appears to be gaining ground as his top challenger.
Mr. Romney, a part-time New Hampshire resident and the former governor of neighboring Massachusetts, retains a commanding perch as the favorite candidate of many Granite State Republicans, with support from 38% of likely primary voters, according to a poll conducted earlier this month by Harvard University and St. Anselm College.
Mr. Cain finished second, with 20%, a finding in line with national polls that show his candidacy gaining steam.
A survey done by WMUR and the University of New Hampshire also put Mr. Cain in second place, with 12%, behind Mr. Romneys 37%.

I don’t pay much attention to debate performances until the field is down to 3 or 4 on the stage. The only debates that really matter are the Presidential debates right before election day; that’s when the undecided watch. By then the candidates are pretty well rehearsed. Good debating skill is icing on the cake, but it’s not the cake.
We’ve argued about this before. The Perry supporters are the worst.
I know that many Sarah Palin fans were upset with Rick Perry’s entry. I learned the hard way to never get too emotionally invested in a candidate, or become too strongly biased against a candidate. It really does cloud your objectivity.
They say different, but I have to say you might just be changing my mind on it.
Unless you was from Texas 66% or better said: “Who” when Perry entered the race.
No, most Paul supporters have a very difficult time doing anything but arguing in favor of Ron Paul, waving signs for Ron Paul, etc for Ron Paul. Even when it might be funny for Buddy Roemer to beat Rick Perry in some straw poll or online poll, they just keep pushing Ron Paul.
Also, for decades, the Paul camp and the Bush/Rove/Perry camp have not liked each other.
I would say that Perry is the most disliked of all the candidates by the Ron Paul supporters.
No, no Ron Paul supporters are pretending to support Rick Perry.
Ron Paul supporters are happy that Rick Perry has lost 4/5th of his support.

You’re a nasty meanie head. Calling me names. You have hurt my feelers now.
On the other hand, Perry was quickly exposed via the debates not only for his tongue-tied speech problems, but also for lambasting a heartless conservative audience.
Meow.
Perry is a doer since he has been governor for 11 years of the largest conservative state in the union and one of the most prosperous states. Cain is a TALKER who has no governing record to run on or to be judged with so the RED MEAT crowds love him because he throws them all red meat rhetoric bumper stickers that they want to hear.
They can speak for themselves.
Here's how I've tried to support and debate with people:
During early summer, we had Romney as a declared candidate. But nobody was real hip on Romney. Except for this Jim Robinson cat. (its a joke!!! don't kill me)...
Then we had at some point or another, Pawlenty and Santorum. Yawn. Then Bachmann gets in. This stirred a lot of interest here. Yay-hoooo finally a conservative!! But people were holding out for Sarah Palin, still. Ron Paul jumps in at some point. The waterheaded people with pocket protectors and briefcases filled with marijuana became outraged with enthusiasm for HIM! Yes they did. He wants no wars and to legalize dope!
So I'm over here, kicked back, got a little dip of Cope in my cheek, boots on the desk, watching all of you hyenas go crazy for candidates A-L.
I hear through the grapevine that my governor (Perry) might jump in the race. I thought "Alright, this could be reeeeal good. We got a hodge podge of cartoon characters up there now, why not Rick Perry?" lol
But seriously, I thought he adds a nice choice and dimension. So yes, I started vocally supporting his run on here. I still do. I tried to duck out from the crowbars and bar stools being lobbed at me from org.whodat and other hippies and gov bean counters. Basically, I tried to keep it above board and friendly.
So that's where I am today. Just a supporter, still hoping for a Perry win!!
“Perry is a doer since he has been governor for 11 years of the largest conservative state in the union”
Ding, ding, dong! You finally get it. It isn’t perry that’s conservative, it’s TEXAS! If TEXAS was liberal, so would perry be...because that’s just the kind of guy he is. So as far as perry being a “doer”, whatever was done got either done or UNdone because TEXAS said so. And if you think TEXAS is happy with the illegals getting in-state tuition, think again because TEXAS doesn’t like it one bit. The people of Texas never got to vote on it.
“The people of Texas never got to vote on it.”
Wasn’t this law passed by the Texas legislature, who are elected by the people of Texas, and signed by the Governor, who was elected by the people of Texas in 2001?
Here is something to think about; Herman Cain who truly was a virtual unknown had faith enough in himself to decide to run for President of the United States on his own. There was no Media hype/pressure/build-up about a possible run, there was no urging by members of the Party, no words spoken into his ear by party players or elites, not even a word of encouragement from the Republican Party of his home state only faith in himself. Now after months of being treated as being a inconsequential candidate the curious sideshow of a conservative black Republican, he now in the top tier along with people of great party pull, of men with experienced political machines and the dollars to power them. He did that on his own with no help from anyone. Now think what a man with faith in himself like that could accomplish if given the chance.
“Have you been watching ABC News and their stories on obesity? Have you? “
nope.
The in-state tuition for children of illegal immigrants passed in 2001 by 95% of the Texas legislature and Perry has been elected governor three times since. It is clear to me that Texans are smart enough to know the priorities and importance of the issues and the instate tuition for children of illegal immigrant is a deal breaker for them. They many not like it but they are smart enough to vote on the balance of someone stand on a host of issues and they voted for Perry three times. I hope that the Republican primaries voters are that smart or else they going to get Romney as the nominee.
[Perry] threw the mexicans a bone so to speak by doing something
that probably only helps less than 1/10 of 1 % of the best academic
achievers. He would never have become governor here in Texas if he
had dissed all the Mexican voters all the time. People who dont think
that is true dont know Texas politics. There are a lot of Mexicans here
that are native born and do vote conservative.

I see at least one Perry voter who supports pandering as the method to advance Tricky Rick's political career. No thanks.
Just because you don't pay attention to debates until late in the game doesn't mean the rest of them don't matter. The debates provide newcomers and under-funded candidates the opportunity for name recognition and exposure to the national audience.I said I don't pay much attention to debate performances until the field is down to 3 or 4 on the stage. Very few people are good at debating, given time and experience most can learn to be adequate debaters. I do pay close attention to the primary debates and I agree with you on that.
On the other hand, Perry was quickly exposed via the debates not only for his tongue-tied speech problems, but also for lambasting a heartless conservative audience.Yes, that was poor statesmanship on Perry's part. Herman Cain also exhibited poor statesmanship, IMO, when he said that some Americans are stupid and clueless at the Values Voter Summit.
