TAMPA, Fla. -- For about 60 demonstrators who showed up at Gaslight Park in downtown Tampa on Sunday, the rain wasn't about to water down their message.
It also wasn't about to impact plans for about 100 people in Bradenton to join the Occupy Wall Street-inspired movement earlier that day.
"I really believe in this movement. I believe it's time to address the influence that corporations have on our government," demonstrator Rugh Cline says.
He joined those who showed up with umbrellas and signs wrapped in plastic. A posting on Occupy Tampa's Facebook page advertised a shipment of ponchos being delivered to those who decided to stand in the showers.
"What is the problem? The wealth is unevenly distributed in this country," demonstrator Ashley Perry says.
As the Occupy Tampa movement continues, like many others around the country, questions have been raised about whether some demonstrators are paid to attend and hold signs. At least in Tampa Bay, Cline says he's never heard of that occurring.
"This is very grassroots. People have come out here on their own free will. If anybody's being paid to protest, that's news to me," he says. "That's definitely not happening."
“Dozens”! Yikes!!! We’re toast!
Their slogan - “What do we want? We don’t know! When do we want it? NOW!”
LOL!!
They know what they want. They want your money.
Back at the OWS encampment at Zuccotti Park, its a hygienic disaster area: greasy hair, stained shirts, crusted trousersand thats just the journalists...
Wait till the Grabby Grannies show up. Then you will need to send them a box of DEPENDS to keep the place clean.
Also, the Pat Buchanan presidential voters will also show up.
That should bring the total to 61.
This is news? More like a Metamucil commercial.
A green fog has been spotted forming over Zuccotti Park. A No Smoking Within 500 yards alert has been posted.
At least they outdrew the Tampa Bay Rays.
it’s the closest thing to a shower these neo-hippies have seen in a long time.
and it’s FREE !!
“Occupy Tampa movement attracts dozens despite rain”
Compare to Finding NO mention in the media of the true number that attended Palin’s speech in Madison, in the freezing cold, and snow. From all reliable reports the number was around 15000.
I’m surprised the press didn’t lie about the number in Tampa. If they thought they could have gotten away with it, they would have Photo shopped it up to thousands.
As hard as I’m going to work for Conservatives this year, I am going to work just as hard to prove that the MSM has the same journalistic integrity as the Weekly World News! Maybe less.
LOL!
We have had Tea Parties in Tampa that drew more people. Heck we had the first Tea Party in Lakeland that drew 1500+ and we barely had media coverage. Another observation, they always make fun of the looks of the Tea Party crowd, are these idiots telling mainstreet America that these OWP are better looking! Peleeeeeeze. It’s the 60’s all over again. The funniest part is Dems are willing to co-op this group of crazy’s. Go for it Pelosi, keep talking.
Bias? Nah, no bias here.
Step One: Collect Underpants
Step Two: ?
Step Three: Profit!
(to qoute the Deion Sanders Fairy character) “HEY, Hey, Hey...hey!?”
I know at least one of the numbers is overstated. The number is only accurate if the reporter had double vision.
Some links you might enjoy - and yeah, you’re right about the bias.
If the Tea Party had ‘dozens’ of people show up - AND MOST OF THEM WERE PAID TO BE THERE ... there would not be a story. Oh wait - there would be a story - one about how the Tea Party was hiring shills. Check out the last link - it hints how long this has been in the making;
Make $350-650 a week protesting on Wall Street”
