Rick Perry Does Not Support a U.S.-Mexico Border Fence
The Rick Perry Report ^ | Oct 6, 2011 | Joe Hyde

A prime complaint against Rick Perry is that some have attributed to him that he doesn't support the building of a border fence. This is not true. Perry is for a more comprehensive border security system that includes strategic fencing, better surveillance, and "boots on the ground."

If you have ever visited the border regions of Texas, you will agree with me that constructing a fence along the entire 1,200 mile border is not only horribly expensive, but very disruptive to the environment, private property, and the Rio Grande.

Yep, that brilliant mind, Rick Perry, is surely right about the hopelessness of trying such an engineering feat as building a fence on a border.

It just doesn't make sense, as he has assured us! If only we had great minds like Rick Perry throughout the ages!

Rick Perry in 2011: “The idea that you are going to build a wall, a fence for 1,200 miles, and then go 800 miles more to Tijuana, does not make sense.”

Rick Perry in 1980: “The idea that you are going to build a tunnel under the sea between England and France, does not make sense.”

Rick Perry in 1963: “The idea that you are going to send a man from the earth to the moon and back across that distance, does not make sense.”

Rick Perry in 1944: “The idea that you are going to send a fleet across the English Channel and land tens of thousands of men on shore on the other side, does not make sense.”

Rick Perry in 1930: “The idea that you are going to build a huge dam, in the middle of a river, does not make sense.”

Rick Perry in 1904: “The idea that you are going to dig a giant trench from the Atlantic to the Pacific for some sort of canal, does not make sense.”

Rick Perry in 1903: “The idea that you are going to fly through the air in some sort of flying machine does not make sense.”

Rick Perry in 1860: “The idea that you are going to build a railroad from the Atlantic to the Pacific, does not make sense.”

Rick Perry in 1492: “The idea that you are going to sail west across the ocean, does not make sense.”

Rick Perry in 1400: “The idea that you are going to build a long line of dikes to hold back the sea, does not make sense.”

Rick Perry in 400 B.C.: “The idea that you are going to build a wall on the border with Mongolia, does not make sense.”

Rick Perry in Biblical times: “The idea that you are going to build a giant ark, does not make sense.”

Maybe the fence won’t need to be built along the Rio Grande. There are other difficult areas where it is impossible to build a fence. I haven’t heard about the goal of building only 700 miles of fence. I suppose that would be do-able but still a fence can be defeated. Are we sure we want to gamble all that money building a fence and have some innovative Mexican figure out a way to defeat it? I showed what the Palestinians have done. I have seen other tactics and wrote about my idea: a 12 volt battery running a 12 volt hoist to lift you over a fence. It all comes to the bottom line. We need to have the boots on the ground in case the fence is being defeated. Picture the siege of the Alamo.

Governor Rick Perry has asked for 3000 troops on the Texas border. He knows what it will take. Do you know that we have some very sophisticated surveillance technology that can be used to detect illegals sneaking across? That technology can also get better. As that technology gets perfected, it can also be used in warfare applications. We already know what the capability of those drone aircraft. The illegals swimming across the Rio Grande will be like ducks in a barrel waiting to be plucked out of the water and told to swim back under the barrel of a .50 caliber machine gun. We should have boots on the ground with teeth.

There are Tea Party groups against E-Verify because it paves the way for big brother and the national id card. See rutherford.org for more details. Though maybe someone more in the know will chime in.

3000 troops to cover 700 miles? How does that work?

It makes sense when used in conjunction with a fence and the surveillance because the fence will slow them down giving troops a chance to catch up to them. But you don't defend territory from the air or with a couple of troops spread out over miles.

And apparently once they are here, Senor Ricky isn’t willing to do a darn thing to discourage them from staying. That’s the part that bothers me more than discussions about a fence.

Fences can also be tunneled under.

The real answer is troops. There will be gunfire, already is. Texas rangers and border patrol as well as border sheriffs take it often.

It's gonna take someone serious about securing the border. A fence is a ridiculous idea except in certain urban areas.

We have to militarize this border.

No those violent gangs wont kill anyone because we will have a fence. /sarc

It is clear Cain and Mitt have no idea what is going on on the border, have no plan, except Cain said he is for the existing plan, whatever that is. Romney has no plan or has been too coy to show us it.

I hope Perry gets Mitt and Cain on record wanting the 2000 mile border fence. It will be their undoing. Cain's 9-9-9 plan will sink him once the numbers are crunched. Right now he is coasting on his amiable personality.

“Fences can also be tunneled under. The real answer is troops.”

These false choices get ever more ridiculous.

Yep, constructing an UNDERGROUND TUNNEL beneath a fence, is just like snapping your fingers. Having to build and use tunnels wouldn’t make any difference at all versus sauntering across open land.

Should we use a fence, or should we use boots on the ground? What a tough question, between we can’t possibly have both!

You can have chocolate ice cream or you can have vanilla ice cream. No, no, no, no no! You can’t have both, you have to choose only one, either a fence or boots on the ground!

“No those violent gangs wont kill anyone because we will have a fence”

Yep, unless a fence reduces violence to absolutely ZERO, it’s just not worth it.

After all, if we build a fence, and someone somewhere is killed by violent gang, it was all a giant waste.

Oh please.

We all know what’s going here.

Follow the money.

The money is on the side of agribusiness and construction and drug smuggling and the other powerful financial interests in favor of an open border and for screwing the ordinary citizen worried about the future of his country.

And the money flows in huge amounts to open-borders politicians.

THAT is what this is all about.

You can have both and Perry advocates that. We have border fencing in Texas! It's the 2000 mile fence we're talking about here. To say Perry is against fencing is a lie, to say he is against the 2000 mile border fence like Michelle Bachman spoke about is true.

Now what will you do when Cain and Mitt have to agree with Perry? I hope Perry gets them on record advocating a 2000 mile border fence. Maybe O'Reilly can get them to go on record.

Google Texas border fence and see what kind of pics come up.

Bull shite.

Perry is against the fence except in “strategic” areas of some “urban” areas.

He plays it like a false choice of “fence vs boots on the ground.”

That brilliant long-term thinker Rick Perry actually told a group of Republicans that we shouldn’t build a fence because “it would take too long.” True story!

Perry is sold out to the big $$ interests who screw the rest of us by using cheap Mexican labor.

No. Perry wants 3000 troops to cover just the 1200 mile Texas border. I have no idea what the other states could use. With surveillance technologies and watch towers, choppers filled with troops could be called in at a moment’s notice to intercept border crossers. A well paved road along the border would move forces around to places where crossers are detected threatening to cross the border. I can imagine tactics used on the Iraq-Iran border could be used. The Israelis could give some good advice.

I shall say good night now. Good dreams of a sealed border my FRiend.

Awesome post!

Since we actually have a working fence that Duncan Hunter got built, you'd think Perry would come up with something better as reason. One that isn't so easily disputed. But, then again, he appears to be a simpleton in his thinking.
