Two Republican presidential candidates, Rick Perry and John Huntsman, are boycotting a proposed Univision debate due to what they say were unethical journalistic practices in the way the Spanish-language media giant handled Sen. Marco Rubio, a vice-presidential shortlister.
Other campaigns might soon join Perry and Huntsman, sources say.
They made their announcement at the behest of three Florida Hispanic Republican lawmakers who noted that the senators office and Univision insiders said Univision publicized an embarrassing story about Rubios brother in law because he wouldnt sit down for an interview on the show Al Punto, which has espoused a liberal line on the hot-topic of immigration.
Univision has called the allegations of a quid-pro-quo absurd, and said that the July story of the 24-year-old drug bust was reported fairly and accurately.
But Perry and Huntsman apparently believed the reports from Rubios office and the Univision insiders, which were first revealed in a Sunday Miami Herald story.
Governor Perry will not consider participating in the January 29, 2012, Univision debate until your network addresses this ethical breach and takes action to correct it, Perrys communications director, Ray Sullivan, wrote Univision on Tuesday.
With NBC and Telemundo also hosting a debate the same weekend in January 2012, we will have ample opportunity to engage with Spanish-speaking Americans, Perry wrote.

This can be taken further by conservative columnists, bloggers, and talk-show hosts. The accuser(s) should be keelhauled. The goal will be to make them as miserable as they intended their victims to be, which would act as a form of aversion therapy, forcing them to think twice and then three times about ever pulling the same trick again. (Need I add that the process would also prove valuable in cases involving Congress, industry, state politicians, media, and anywhere else such accusations may arise?)
What will happen is that the accusers will retreat. They are bullies, and that is what bullies do. (Even Andre Carson, a blowhard and loudmouth of the first order, has thought better of his "lynching" comment.) The media will give the GOP candidates all the publicity any pol could want. The GOP voters will go wild. Any further accusations will be unlikely, a benefit to all candidates equally. It would mean a cleaner campaign, an easier victory, and who knows? Perhaps even a step toward a more civil society.
For too long, too many blacks have wallowed in their own private sumps of self-pity, collapsing into whimpers every time somebody mentions blackmail, blackouts, or black markets. It's a pathetic epilogue to the heroism and grandeur of the civil rights movement. It's past time this adolescent posturing was put aside.
It will take some effort to accomplish this. (We'll refer only to the fact that the current incumbent has made no such effort whatsoever.) But the black grievance-hunters are no better than the Dixiecrats of old, using the same methods to keep Americans on edge, in fear, and overcome with anxiety. Using racism for political gain is a cheap and coarse tactic no matter who is involved. It needs to be ended."
“Al Sharpton said Monday on his MSNBC show that hes counting down the time until Perry speaks about it.
......It is too early to tell, of course, whether the issue will doom Perrys candidacy; it may depend on whether there are further revelations indicating that Perry did too little to address racism in his community, or if he contributed to it. Lengthy follow-ups to Virginia Sen. George Allens macaca comment — the racially offensive term was aimed at an Asian-American volunteer for his opponent, Democrat Jim Webb — ultimately led to his re-election loss in 2006, as a series of stories in the media revealed allegations that Allen had used racist slurs before.
So far, there is nothing to suggest Perry has actually done anything wrong is this matter — or anything else. But to some, his silence now is problematic..”

No Rubio on the ticket.
I will not vote for any ticket with someone who is not a natural born citizen, its the Constitution!
Rubio is a citizen.
Well, we are in agreement on at least one thing. Rubio is the lib trap. IF they can get republicans to bite with Rubio then they’ve won. You and I both know if a person is not born to 2 US citizen parents they are NOT a natural born citizen. All other vp’s and president’s have had 2 citizen parents...only 2 slipped in being the present illegal alien living in our WH.
Was he and his parents born here?
This is the beginning of solidarity between the candidates against the MSM going after good candidates.
READ Post #1.
Yes.
Although they shouldn’t go to the Univision debate for other reasons. It’s a leftwing network, I think its owned by NBC although it gets better ratings than NBC I think.
heh
This has NOTHING to do with the ticket.
This has EVERYTHING to do with push back against MSM abuse.
Hit them in their pocket book.
Embarrass them.
Make THEM the story!
Why were republicans going on a spanish-only channel anyway?
Why not?
I think the GOP should run their own debates, and have their own people asking the questions.
We don’t need distractions with trivial stuff at a debate to keep them from showing the idiocy of the Obama admin.
good for all three of them- Huntsman makes my skin crawl but until someone takes a stand and fights back this double standard crap will continue...
The current way is destructive.
Follow the money — look at all the hook-up of groups — and the sale of advertising.
Take away their revenue.
Let the candidates TALK and give their platform and then open it to questions — debate.
Anything but this nonsense — it’s like being fed to the lions for sport.
It's the first time I have a positive human response to him. This is what they ALL should do -- they need to hang together or they will ALL hang separately.
That nothing more that your personal opinion, with no basis is law.
Marco Antonio Rubio (born May 28, 1971) in Miami, Florida, that makes him a citizen.
