Ron Paul Condemns Death of al-Awlaki; "I Don't Think that's a Good Way to Deal with our Problems"

Congressman Ron Paul is condemning the death of terrorist Anwar al-Awalaki, calling his death an "assassination." Here is a short transcript of an exchange that he had with a reporter who was asking how he felt about the news:

Reporter- Over night, our time, Anwar al-Awalaki was killed... What do you think about that? Is that a victory for President Obama?

Congressman Paul- Let's hope not. I don't think that's a good way to deal with our problems. He's born here. Awalaki was born here. He's an American citizen. He was never tried or charged for any crimes. Nobody knows if he ever killed anybody. We know that he might have been associated with the, uh, underwear bomber. But if the American people accept this blindly and casually, we now have an accepted practice of the President assassinating people who he thinks are bad guys. I think it's sad....

Reporter- Does that only apply to American citizens? I mean, would you say the same thing about bin Laden?

Congressman Paul- Not exactly. You know, because he was involved with, you know, 9/11...

This assclown should NEVER again be on the stage during a Presidential debate - he may be right on some things, but on too many important issues to list, he’s a complete idiot.

So, if you are an American citizen, you can declare yourself aligned with a wartime enemy, move to their country, start fighting on their side, and expect a full civil trial and protection from any covert action.

In Mr. Paul’s “utopia.”

Agree or disagree with Paul, the fact is that Obama has just set a huge new precedent for extrajudicial executions.

AND U.S. CITIZENS ARE NO LONGER EXECPTIONS.....

This will have long-term consequences we can’t even imagine, yet.

Poor little anti-war Code Pinko moonbat Paul.

He just can't stand to see our enemies suffer a loss.

What these Code Pinkos like Ron Paul fail to realize is that these terrorists wouldn't cut their American sympathizers any more slack than they would the rest of us.

They want to see Americans dead.

Period. End of story.

Technically, Paul is libertarian, but I think this one still applies here:

I think Ron Paul is right. This administration, up until recently, has not even wanted to call our efforts in self-defense a War on Terror. Here are some problems as I see them:

Does this administration and congress agree that we are “at war” or not? If so, with whom? Has it been officially declared?

The man targeted was an American citizen. He was accused, but not tried or convicted. Can POTUS now “put out a contract” on any American he doesn't like?

We sent drones to Yemen and troops to Libya and Pakistan to “take out” people designated by POTUS as enemies. If Bin Laden had been spotted in London, would we have disregarded Great Britain's sovereignty in the same manner?

Please don't tell me I'm too liberal for you; actually, I'm probably somewhere to the right of Jesse Helms, but I feel like amateurs are running our foreign policy. We could stumble into another world war at a time when we might not come out on top.

This is one sad thread, and a constant reminder why this conservative and longtime member spends very little time posting here. Ron Paul may be an idiot, and indeed I have NEVER supported him. However, for anyone who purports to be a Conservative to take the position that a US Citizen by birth can have all of his or her rights waived or extinguished without due process, is ignorant. Moreover, to hide behind the Constitution, as many often do for the arguments they like, and then dump on it for an outcome they really want — that my friends is what liberals do. It's the difference between intellectual honesty and base, ignorant, reactionarism. I am happy this enemy of America is dead, I but I take no pleasure in the shredding of the Constitution that took place to make it happen.

One must also shred the Constitution to accept that Anwar al-Awlaki was a citizen in the first place.

Ron Paul is seeing where the US government’s political correctness will take this power in the future. Just as Americans permitted the Federal government to implement extreme airport security to protect us agianst Islamic terrorism, Obama comes in and sexually molests all travelers- men, women and children including and especially the handicapped as potential terrorists. He names the Islamic terrorists innocent and names his political enemies domestic terrorists.

So...I if could count on the elite to be loyal, ethical and sane, the president having the power to assignate warring Islamists would make sense. However, we have a disloyal, insane, politically correct elite who could and would, at any minute, use that power murder their political opponets. They are currently flying a kite to suspend elections.

These are the times we live in. Nothing can be counted on.

Exactly!!! Remember people. Big Sis has labeled anyone who’s white, has guns, and doesn’t like our govt as terrorists! If Obama can take out an American citizen turned terrorists, who’s to say he won’t think it’s ok to take us out!

Think people!! Think!!!!!
