Ashland man arrested for terror plot WHDH (hat tip Johana) ASHLAND, Mass -- A 26-year-old man from Massachusetts was arrested on terrorism charges.
Federal agents say he was plotting to bomb buildings in Washington, D.C. Two of the suspect’s apparent targets were the Capitol and the Pentagon.
Authorities say he was using a storage unit in Framingham to build his weapons.
The Department of Justice took Rezwan Ferdaus, a Northeastern University graduate into custody. They say he was planning to destroy the Pentagon and U.S. Capitol using a remote controlled aircraft filled with plastic explosives.
Authorities say he had rented a storage facility in Framingham under a false name where he planned to use the unit to build his attack plan and maintain all his equipment.
In recorded conversations with the government’s cooperating witness that began in January 2011, Ferdaus said he planned to attack the Pentagon using a small drone aircraft filled with explosives and guided by GPS equipment.
In April he allegedly expanded his attack to include the U.S. Capitol. In the affidavit, Ferdaus is quoted as looking for, “…A connection that would be able to gather, ah, some material where we can build some of the explosive enough to take out a target that’s like three football fields, say a radius of one or two blocks?”
He also made his goal clear to the cooperating witness saying, “Because that, that’s the target to eliminate and terrify all enemies of Allah. We have this project started…This is, this is what we have to do. This is the righteous way… [to] terrorize enemies of Allah.”
Authorities say Ferdaus was upset at the death of Osama Bin Laden in May. He was recorded as referring to the terrorist leader as “our boss.”
Ferdaus is also accused of trying to work with Al-Qaeda to carry out attacks on U.S. soldiers stationed overseas.

Why give any immigration visas to Europeans when you can have so wonderfully multicultural people as this guy?
He may have been intending to “destroy” the Pentagon but he could not have succeeded in that venture. Flying a 747 into the place with a load of fuel on wasn’t sufficient to more than damage the building. When these fellows get nukes to use then maybe they can seriously think about actually destroying that building.

Here’s the facts on the kid. He went to college on a soccer scholorship and actually got a degree in physics...then five years later...was still living in Dad’s house, and his only means of making money? He was a drummer in a band. When the FBI guys talked to him about how he’d know the DC area when he’d never been there....he had to ask the undercover FBI agent for money to travel there because as a drummer...he just didn’t make enough money.
Or you could use an I-phone feeding its video back to a computer controller operating via the cellular system.
As for bomb load, that is indeed the kicker for off the shelf remote controlled aircraft.
A well designed small aircraft with a motorcycle engine could probably deliver 100-200 pounds of explosives, but it would also need larger, not off the shelf, control servos.
In a nutshell, not at all rocket science, but not a small project either.

A few pounds of Kaboomite in this one, maybe. He’d crack/puncture the exterior a bit, break a lot of windows, and piss off the guys in Humvees with .50s in the parking lot.
I have a 1/4 scale R/C aircraft.
This is a very very real and most dangerous threat that the armchair commanders just don’t realize.
These aircraft have the ability to use live cameras thus can be piloted from miles away, they can carry a decent payload.
And forget about explosives, what would be the worst is plutonium dust or biological agents.
They have plans no doubt about flying their mini crop dusters over public events, theme parks, races or even political rallies.
Its Islam, its always about Islam and the dormant goal of killing infidels, they always will no matter how sweet they look or sound.
Rezwan, huh? BORN in America? Really? Would love to know exactly how he came to be an American. Because “Rezwan” sure doesn’t sound like a “homegrown” jihadist.

Also, speaking of "diversity", did you know that there is such thing as a "diversity visa"? I never knew this until I read about in a story about the ground zero victory mosque. I wish I could remember the article title.
