I have desperately been waiting for a true conservative to step up to the plate and win me over. I had thought Rick Perry was the guy. On the issues as a whole Im in Perrys corner. I would prefer his position on the issues to go forward as our standard, but then there was his defense of Texas Dream Act.
I respect Rick Perry defending his position on illegal immigration. He stuck to his guns despite its being a liability in Republican primaries. Most voters disagree with him, but he defended it. Ok. Thats why we have debates after all.
It was his concluding statement that has infuriated me. He defended his position by stating that those who oppose his position have no heart. Really? No heart? Rick Santorum jumped on this to his credit.
Rick Perry is free to defend his position as he sees it on the merits, but to suggest his critics are heartless is right out of the liberal textbook. As conservatives it is bad enough that we must endure such assaults from liberals and their acolytes in the mainstream media, but weve come to expect that and have effectively rebutted this view. But from Rick Perry? A conservative Republican Governor of Texas to criticize a dissenting view to label his conservative critics heartless? I would expect that from Barack Obama or Bill Clinton or Michael Moore, but from the front runner in a contest for President?
When it comes to politics, I can be as jaded and as cynical as they come in spite of an overall sense that we can overcome every obstacle. What Rick Perry said was an affront, an insult to every conservative who has ever had the indignity of being called heartless. I dont agree with Rick Perry on the policy in question, so in his world I have no heart. Thats not politics, thats personal to me. If Governor Perry insists upon employing liberal talking points to further his agenda, then maybe he shouldve remained a registered Democrat and stopped wasting my time in a Republican primary.
I rather have no heart for illegals then no brain and no soul like Perry!

Is Rick Perry Done?
Honestly, Perry’s views are selling nationally, but conservatives apparently want Romney, according to FOX, the Luntz forum, NRO ONLINE, with plenty of help from useful idiots all over the place. The DEMOCRATS want Romney, and the neocons, and the RINOS who will be jobless with Rick but not Romney. This is sounding like a site of stalking ponies for Romney. What a ride!
To your point, I have wondered if the 2 hours of standing are a problem for his back. He is so awesome and clear and detailed in appearances and answers questions with abandon, in those more coherent forums, as opposed to the herd approach. A debater he is not. More has to be done to improve his short form answers.
“The cringe-worthiest moment, by a hair, was when Perry botched what should have been his most potent attack on Mitt Romneys chronic flip-flopping.”
Romney’s response? “Nice try.”
ouch.
Rick Perry (2011): “heartless”
Jimmy Carter (1976): “ethnic purity”

Video thanks to The Right Scoop. The lackluster stumbling starts at around 1:28 into the clip:
This clip is already viral.
I want Cain: The only one who can defeat obamacare.
“It ended his candidacy.”
Tonight Perry dropped off my list. Perry, Romney, Huntsman, Johnson and Bachmann have all missed the cut for me. The kook Paul was never on my list. I had hopes for Perry and Bachmann and they have really disappointed me.
I doubt he is finished, but he sure hurt himself.
Texans want Perry because on their over sized egos. Now I love most Texans even when they are clearly talking out their ten gallon hats. I especially love the ones that grin because even they know they are talking trash, but then you have those who really believe that what their cattle produce in so much abundance doesn’t stink!
The deep pocket money guys can’t be happy with what they saw tonight.
Blog pimp police alert!
@jimpethokoukis: Rick Perry plunging on #Intrade. It is now Romney 40.5%, Perry 29%
Perry’s just not smart enough and even more troubling, he just doesn’t want to work hard to overcome his deficiencies. Just doesn’t belong in the WH
Sadly, no one can. Today, it is the law of the land.
The president is bound to uphold it.
I focus more on retaining the House and gaining the Senate.
So, I have no heart? Well, Perry, I fart in your general direction!
Possibly you’re right. Texas smells like money and jobs to Texans.
LOL
Testin’ out new signature...
I likes it!
Yeah, that does it, one word I don’t like and it’s screw you Perry the conservative Republican Governor of Texas who I thought was a true conservative but now he should have stayed a democrat and he uses liberal talking points and I can’t vote for him and now it’s personal and he’s wasting my time and....blah, blah, blah.
Good Kevin, get it out of your system, Mitt will love you for it.
