I have desperately been waiting for a true conservative to step up to the plate and win me over. I had thought Rick Perry was the guy. On the issues as a whole Im in Perrys corner. I would prefer his position on the issues to go forward as our standard, but then there was his defense of Texas Dream Act.
I respect Rick Perry defending his position on illegal immigration. He stuck to his guns despite its being a liability in Republican primaries. Most voters disagree with him, but he defended it. Ok. Thats why we have debates after all.
It was his concluding statement that has infuriated me. He defended his position by stating that those who oppose his position have no heart. Really? No heart? Rick Santorum jumped on this to his credit.
Rick Perry is free to defend his position as he sees it on the merits, but to suggest his critics are heartless is right out of the liberal textbook. As conservatives it is bad enough that we must endure such assaults from liberals and their acolytes in the mainstream media, but weve come to expect that and have effectively rebutted this view. But from Rick Perry? A conservative Republican Governor of Texas to criticize a dissenting view to label his conservative critics heartless? I would expect that from Barack Obama or Bill Clinton or Michael Moore, but from the front runner in a contest for President?
When it comes to politics, I can be as jaded and as cynical as they come in spite of an overall sense that we can overcome every obstacle. What Rick Perry said was an affront, an insult to every conservative who has ever had the indignity of being called heartless. I dont agree with Rick Perry on the policy in question, so in his world I have no heart. Thats not politics, thats personal to me. If Governor Perry insists upon employing liberal talking points to further his agenda, then maybe he shouldve remained a registered Democrat and stopped wasting my time in a Republican primary.
Blog pimp.
Blog pimps generally post a 2 line excerpt. In this case he differs with your opinions on Perry.
You’ve hit one of the big problems with Rick Perry. He has an overinflated ego and thinks that posturing is the answer to any issue. I hope conservatives are starting to see that he’s not a conservative.
It is demogoguery. If a democrat said it we would recognize it for the puke that it is.
Great post!
It’s not the first time perry has done this. In the other debate it was “And the bottom line is it doesnt make any difference what the sound of your last name is”
No college for them?
A new country song from Perry Records
“They say I’m heartless,
though I’m just making sense
they say I’m too cruel
but I’m not the only one”

I’ve watched all of Perry’s debates from the last 10 years, and I’ve never seen him this wobbly.

He has no conservative instincts, he’s a gummie politician, it is all posturing as you said.
Former Democrat Rick Perry...is only partially "Former".
I can not concieve of any circumstance in which I would vote for him.
It’s only round 2 and he’s just broken his own jaw!
“heartless” is going to haunt him, it’s a painful blow
Feelings, nothing more than feelings,
trying to forget my feelings of love.
Teardrops rolling down on my face,
trying to forget my feelings of love.
Feelings, for all my life I’ll feel it.
I wish I’ve never met you, girl; you’ll never come again.
Feelings, whoa feelings,
whoa, feel you again in my arms.
Feelings, feelings like I’ve never lost you
and feelings like I’ve never have you again in my heart.
Put me down with you. It ended his candidacy.
I can...if he wins the nomination.
I won’t sit at home or vote for another four years of The Won.
Look Maw no heart here either. JUST SAY NO TO ILLEGALS!!!
HAVE NO HEART??
Has he never heard of the term: ‘Moral Hazard?’
