When I first heard of Perry entering the race I had great expectations. I had hoped the vaccine and the "education of illegals" issues weren't as bad as I had heard they were. After tonight, I fully understand. He can't be trusted with the office of the president and it does look as if he is a consummate politician. And, and a terrible debater. I'm over Perry. Though, if he is the candidate, I will vote for him.
He is unimpressive when it comes to articulation. Not very quick on his feet. That will be a liability vs. Obama + the MSM.
I like his calm demeanor. Cool customer. A bit too laid back.
I’m for Newt right now. He keeps nailing it.
I don’t really like any of them that much, Bachmann says the right things but it doesn’t look like she has that extra THING to get to the next level.
Yep not too smart telling his base that “they don’t have a heart”.
Crickets from Perry supporters tonight on FR.
I love her stances, but I'm also being realistic.
Announcing that conservatives who disagree with him have no heart, twice, is definitely a no-no. Attacking what you want as your base is a really bad idea.
No crickets here. Still voting for him.
Actually, I’d love to see Newt debate Obama... He can be gentlemanly and tough at the same time, plus he is very quick on his feet.
Right now he is running as President with his priority being to keep his current job safe.
He’s gone IMO.
Great post. My feelings 100 percent track yours.
He’d more likely sit on the couch with Obama and do an ad for eco-wacko laws.
Yep, he disturbed me quite a bit with that kind of crap... one thing is for certain, I think they’re all feeling just a little heat from the conservative electorate.
No crickets. He looked terrible. He’s not a debater and tonight is really going to hurt him. Very discouraging.
The heartless quote nearly undid the work some FReepers have been doing to convince the rest of us. :) If he said that in my presence, I would have told him to go F himself. I work in social services and don’t need any politician lecturing me about my ‘heart’ or lack thereof.
But as in every case with a presidential election, one must step back and look at things with a cold analytical eye. While we can get emotionally worked up, and feel an emotional connection or reaction to specific ideas, events or positions, we owe it to ourselves and our country to look at the politician’s record, and compare it to the alternative, and think about judgement, intelligence, and the fact that no pol is going to agree with us on everything. We have to choose which things are most important to us, and by extension the country.
I look at Perry on taxes, abortion, the economy and I am pretty ok with him. I look at Bachmann and Romney, and it’s just “No way.” I don’t think either of them would be good presidents.
I’m not looking to LIKE Perry, just looking at the reality of our situation, and the reality of who’s running. He can shape up in terms of presentation, that’s never been something important to me—slickness of presentation doesn’t impress me, be it from someone I like or someone I loathe. I look to substance, and particularly on a handful of issues. I disagree with Perry strongly on one issue in particular, but otherwise he’s so much better than any of the alternatives right now.
At this stage of the game, aint no way he could debate Obama... the media panelists would have him for lunch and Obama would have him for dessert.
Gee another Ron Paul TROLL astroturfing Perry here .
Shocking !
Isn’t there a Jew hater event run by Code Pink that your late for?
Do you Ron Paul nutters really think your phony 9-11 America hater / Code Pink Loving/ Iran loving/ ear mark King has a chance or are you just another leftist using Paul as a cover to trash Perry here ?
+1
He’s got my money. And I am not that big of a fan.
I will take Perry over Romney anyday.
Well, Obama stunk at debating at this stage, too. He got better. If Perry didn’t ruin himself tonight (and he probably did), he’ll get better, too. I’m not worried about him with Obama. That’s in 8 months. But if he can’t do better at bringing down Romney — with that HUGE target of Romneycare on his back — he won’t get the chance. We’re about to have a President Romney. I want to throw up.
Dude, you sound a little paranoid...
