What happened to the New York attitude?

I spent six months in Manhattan in the early 1970s. I remember New Yorkers as having an in-your-face, take-it-or-leave-it, “Are you talking to me?” attitude. Coming from the small-town, everybody-knows-everybody, “Hello, neighbor!” Midwest, I found this altogether strange, fascinating and refreshing. During the last few years, however, something has gone terribly wrong. That old attitude I came to admire is fading into extinction.

Who can forget George W. Bush, surrounded by emergency response workers while standing on a pile of rubble that only hours before was the Twin Towers? With a bullhorn in hand, and an arm around the shoulder of one of the workers, ....

that makes me wonder...whatever became of Humblegunner? Or MNJohnny, or TheComedien? Those are a couple of Freepers I haven’t seen around here for awhile. Who else is missing?

whatever became of Humblegunner?

I went to Mexico to follow my dream of being a midget
trainer for the large midget circus industry there.

An inquisition was held after the unfortunate flaming hoop
incident that brought to light many "human rights" violations
and other assorted untrue unpleasantness. At that point, I began
to miss my life here in the States, so I have now returned and all is as it was.

Oh......I thought the flaming hoop incident was part of the act. I laughed my behind off.....and picking up your own behind isn’t much fun.
