Just how ignorant are the people who don’t support Governor Palin?  This ignorant:

#Palin fans r actually proud when she comes up w/new words like triumphalism? Instead of a tour bus she should buy a dictionary.

#Palin tells White House to avoid “triumphalism” http://on.fb.me/qzDAWn I think she should avoid criticiosity #soonshecanmakeherowndictionary

Is [triumphalism] even a real word?….thanks for the link, you pompous no-nothing troll. And trust me, I can kick your ass and suit up while doing it….[expletive] off.

Is [triumphalism] even a [expletive] word?

Palin has coined a new word: “triumphalism”. What a [expletive] moron. And this was a VP candidate? She talks like a Kindergartner! Idiot. …..@SarahPalinUSA Will we have a thesaurus that day or will we be making up more of our own words, Mrs. Triumphalism? Idiot….Ok, so she accidentally got one right. [Expletive] you for being a [expletive] about correcting me.

Here is the Merriam-Webster definition of triumphalism : an attitude or feeling of victory or superiority: as a : the attitude that one religious creed is superior to all others b : smug or boastful pride in the success or dominance of one's nation or ideology over others — tri·um·phal·ist \-fə-list\ noun or adjective

When they could have Googled it and found 460,000 or so entries for it, most of them before today, that’s basically begging for a “point and laugh”.

If they bothered to use a spell checker, they'd see it's recognized as a real word.

The funny thing is that when I first read the Facebook I thought “ohhh, she’s using a big word, sure to be trouble”.

Remember the dust up over the word “niggardly”?

So much so that now we’ve been warned off of using it all, even correctly.

It amazes me how our language gets manipulated, by the left and grievance groups and anyone else that happens curry favor with the MSM.

And Sarah? You GO, girl.

She used it perfectly correctly.

If we look up recent usages of it (outside of Twitter!) we read expressions such as 'avoiding triumphalism', 'steering clear of triumphalism', 'act against triumphalism': all of these usages in the context of overweening reactions to a victory imagined, expected or real.

The lardbrains who denounced her on twitter also indulged in triumphalism at their perceived victory. They really should have, ah, avoided triumphalism.

I am with you. She is a wonderful, GREAT, woman.

But if she gets the nomination, its 4 more years of the O.

Palin will make an outstanding Senator at some point in the future.

I am a big Palin fan, but I do believe she misused the word.

[Regarding Libya] "First, the White House needs to avoid triumphalism."

No. She got it 100% right. For instance, the word triumphalism is often used as a mild pejorative against more assertive Roman Catholics by non-Catholic Christians, Jews and Catholics who prefer a softer approach. While often used in a religious context (it wouldn't ordinarily be used to describe a big-mouthed, but successful athlete or coach like Bill Belichik, for instance), in the context of the Middle East, that too is appropriate, as religion and politics are so closely related. James Kilpatrick, William F. Buckley and George Will would all approve of this usage.

Sounds good, I accept your definition and its current usage. A quick reading on my part made me think it had more to do with the superiority of ones ideology, which I did not think fit in this case. That said, I kind felt it was probably close enough. Regardless, the morons who thought it was not a word should hit themselves in the head with a zucchini, 3000 times.

And thank you as well for further proof. It seems to me that Sarah is probably smart enough at this point to reference a dictionary before she uses an uncommon term, knowing the microscope her words are placed under.

It must be kind of fun to set these traps for media and leftist types who underestimate one’s intelligence while overestimating their own.

Honestly, I doubt it was a media trap. Sarah is a highly intelligent person with an excellent vocabulary, and she may well have just tossed the line out there with no reason to think that people of reasonable intelligence would not get this.

Furthermore, I think that Paradox is both right and wrong at the same time (wry smile) in that there may have been an ideological component to her message to the White House after all. Triumphalism, while it’s stripped down base meaning is simply the equivalent of an end zone dance, it is also used in the more “sophisticated, nuanced” literature of postmodernism to eschew such primitive notions as right versus wrong, good versus evil, us versus them, etc. In other words, it is used to deride those who feel their accomplishments or beliefs make them exceptional or in any way superior to anyone else. So in a way, she uses this term to catch the left in an embarrassing moment of hypocrisy and inconsistency with their own core beliefs. How dare they feel “triumphant” when all they say they live for is “humility,” knowing our reduced place in the world, denying our exceptionalism, bowing before Saudi kings, etc.

Bottom line, this was a wickedly effective attack that went to the core of who she knows these people to be, at the highest levels, a multiple warhead missile that reaches both regular people and simultaneously signals the snobs of darkness that they are not so well hidden as they think.

Sarah Palin is coming to Washington, DC, and hell is coming with her.

Kudos, Sarah Palin!

Sarah Palin merely holds out her sword, and liberals line up by the hundreds to impale themselves upon it.
