How do union members come off as “middle class”?

They are working people, and that in itself is honorable service, but “middle class” they are not. They have no investments of which they are impassioned about preserving, they have no skin in the game of life, so to speak. They sell one thing, and that is their time. Union members bring nothing else to the table, and if they do not get their way, they withhold the time, while simultaneously doing mischief and damage to the entity that chose to entertain the notion that a workplace was being provided.

The union leaders like Stern and Trumka, steeped in Marxist thought, will do anything for the proletariat (union workers), and will do little to save the bourgeousie. For union leaders to shed crocodile tears for the middle class is really laughable.

Believe it or not, the average union member's understanding of economics is about nil. They really think that they are WORTH their bloated pay and benefits that they “negotiated” from the “Evil Management” of their company. You see, Evil Management has this huge stack of cash that they are OWED because they, the good union members, work for these evil slave drivers.

They (the union members) will not give back an inch; they would rather see the company go out of business rather than surrender their precious principles.

For union members, the real world is a VERY scary place — you have to actually compete with people who know how to work and how to produce a quality product at a reasonable price customers are willing to buy.

“Customers” is another alien concept for union workers. Union workers think the union takes money directly from the Evil Management's huge cash stash and gives this money to them. That they actually make things to get this money every two weeks (or whenever payday is scheduled) becomes one of those bothers you do to fill-in the time between paychecks.

Note to Verizon CEO: fire these ungrateful morons and start over. With 1 person of 5 out of work or under employed, you'll fill your vacant slots with quality replacements in a heartbeat.

Myths propagated by Unions:

1. There is a fixed amount of money and if they don’t get it some rich guy did.
2. The German Economic Miracle was truly a Miracle, fueled by unions. It wasn’t it was fueled by interest free loans through the Marshall Plan. Thjey got new equipment and favorable trade status for no other reason than we leveled their manufacturing base.
3. Corporations are trying to destroy their own customers.
4. Corporations are owned by big fat white guys who eat steak every night and drive Rolls-Royces.
4. All corporate taxes are paid by the big fat white guys, etc. Apparently they are unaware that the endusers pay all taxes.
5. Increases in taxes will have no effect whatsoever on their product sales. Insert number 4 here. Given sufficient competition and market pricing limits, companies will increase automation, removing union jobs, or just pack up the operation and move it to Mexico.
6. 100% Tariffs on foreign goods will help them sell more product. Apparently they are convinced that the products that they sell overseas will continue to be nearly free to export.
7. When a company threatens to move the operation overseas their uniform response is “They’ll never do that!”. And then they do. And then the union will b!tch about it.
8. Big corporations, the big fat white guys, are all Republican. The fact that the big fat white guys consistently fund the Demo party has escaped them.
9. Although a major source of funding for the Demo party is the environmental movement, they have no recognition that the movement has sponsored and has had passed massive amounts of legislation that has shut down a lot of manufacturing in the US. This is particularly strange.
10. Unions feel that violence for the cause is noble. Unfortunately, some Prosecuting Attorneys think the same.

Talking with a dyed in the wool union guy in the 21st century is a very weird experience as they are isolated from the market or appear to be. Most of them get nearly all their news from the local union rag.......bad beyond belief.

I have been a union member in the past (OCAW) and why a union member would ever vote Demo for any position is a real mystery.

Funny thing, that. It hasn’t been a republican administration, or a “corporate”-backed administration that has kept unemployment above 9% - it’s been a union-controlled democrat-party (mal)administration.

So, just who is it who’s destroying the American middle class? Not corporations or conservatives, that’s for sure.
