While whining about his incessant criticism from conservatives and Tea Partiers at a fundraiser in Manhattan on Friday night, Obama played the MLK card. Indeed, he compared his suffering to Martin Luther King Jr.'s suffering. From Politcker:
Standing in Weinsteins basement, Obama said his troubles are like the ones facing Cuomo.
When I ran in 2008, I think that a lot of folks believed we elect Obama and suddenly were going to fix politics in Washington, Obama said. And Andrew is familiar with this, because everybody figures, well, were going to fix politics in Albany.
And then it turns out that there are a lot of bad habits that have been built up over time, and were also a big, diverse country and not everybody agrees with me; not everybody agrees with the folks who live in Manhattan, he said, drawing laughter from the rich celebrities that filled the room. West of here, he said. You guys may not be familiar with it.
The comparison was something of a stretch. Obama is struggling to recharge the national economy amid an increasingly deadlocked capitol split along party lines, while Cuomo, for his part, isnt struggling much.
He passed a budget without raising taxes or destroying social service programs, and passed a landmark bill legalizing same-sex marriage, turning the state government in Albany from dysfunctional to hyperactive, in under seven months. (Cuomo attended the fundraiser as an invited guest, and did not pay, according to a source.)
Before leaving, Obama likened himself to one more figure. Martin Luther King, Jr.
I think that we forget when he was alive there was nobody who was more vilified, nobody who was more controversial, nobody who was more despairing at times, he said.
If I'm not mistaken Mr. President, MLK was assassinated. I'm thinking your "suffering" isn't even in the same league.
Interesting that he compares himself to King, a republican, prolife civil rights leader whose enemies were democrats. In his ignorance he insults his strongest supporters.
“Obama Compares His ‘Suffering’ to Martin Luther King Jr.”
Don’t tease me Mr. Saboteur.
Dr. King was a greater man than Obama could ever hope to be. Obama isn’t worthy of being mentioned in the same sentence.
Narcissistic bastard.
You got that right. MLC was a great man and a natural leader of men. The obambat is a miserable excuse for a man and has no qualities of leadership. The citizens on both the right and left of our country agree on only one thing. Obama has failed miserably as president.
When I ran in 2008, I think that a lot of folks believed we elect Obama and suddenly were going to fix politics in Washington, Obama said.
Translation: Enact Soviet-style communism overnight.
Sorry it’s taking you so long, President Lenin.
WOW. I have never seen that picture. Where did you get it. These two are CLEARLY flames.
“He gets to fly around the world in a plane he doesn’t have to pay for, vacations in the most expensive spots, eats expensive food, golfs several times a month, holds lavish parties, and receives enormous sums of money from wealthy supporters. Yea, that sounds just like MLK.”
Well said!
Suffering through all those golf games and Martha’s Vineyard is comparable to Dr. King’s struggle? Riiighhhht...
I can’t wait for his next book which will be written during a period of seclusion after his loss in 2012 called “My struggle” where he outlines how a certain group of people inside the country are getting in the way of the greatest possible awakening of American power.
I hate to be a myth buster, but, MLK Jr. was NOT a Republican. He campaigned heavily for LBJ and had communist advisors who Robert Kennedy even warned him about. People have parroted this myth for many years, and it just isn’t true. He was also into socialism big time. No, MLK was NOT a Republican.
King was under FBI surveillance for several years (until he died) due to his ties with communist organizations throughout the country. King accepted money from the organizations to fund his movements. In return, King had to appoint communist leaders to run certain districts of his SCLC (Southern Christian Leadership Conference), who then could project their communist ideas to larger audiences. A federal judge in the 60’s ruled that the FBI files on King’s links to communism to remain top-secret until 2027. Senator Jesse Helms appealed to the Supreme Court in 1983 to release the files, so the current bill in the Senate to create the Martin Luther King Federal Holiday could be abolished. He was denied.
4. One of King’s closest friends, Rev. Ralph Abernathy, wrote a book in 1989 in which he talked about King’s obsession with white prostitutes. King would often use church donations to have drunken sex parties, where he would hire two to three white prostitutes, occasionally beating them brutally. This has also been reported by the FBI agents who monitored King. King was married with four children.
And this Wash Post article in 2006 says King actually voted for LBJ in 1964. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/10/18/AR2006101801754.html
In fact, in “The Autobiography of Martin Luther King, Jr.,” which was published after King’s death from his written material and records, King called the 1964 Republican national convention that nominated Goldwater a “frenzied wedding ... of the KKK and the radical right.”

So, in some aspects, bammie might be able to identify with MLK.
Suffering on arugula and wagyu!
Why wouldn’t he compare himself to King???? King was, afterall, a communist, also.
You insufferable, selfish, egocentric, narcssistic, narrow-minded, inept excuse for a leader whose bills were and are being paid by pathetic, radical, genocidal leftists here and abroad, just shut up!
‘The Passion of the anti-Christ’
and
“How I Killed Osama bin Laden”
A doubleheader coming soon before the elections to a theatre near you...
Next he’ll compare himself to Jesus Christ, then Muhammad.
