I give Larry credit for ticking off the feminists. But only for that.
You can use it to understand that Americans are very forgiving people, in general, but they detest hypocrisy.
Then, you use that understanding to guide points of argument. For example, you don't just say, "Algore is bad"...you say, "Algore tells others to cut energy usage while he increases his own" (and cite supporting details).
Remember when Eliot Spitzer's involvement as a client of a prostitution ring came to light. Look at the difference of the reaction on FR from that in America or New York in general. Much of America/NY didn't care about his involvement with prostitution very much, per se, but the issue had great traction because of how he'd prosecuted several prostitution rings previously. He'd made many enemies, and they pounced on the hypocrisy.
IMO, this is one of the biggest disconnects between many conservatives and the general public/electorate--and, therefore, the place where we can make the biggest gains in getting our points across.
