This morning, I was clicking around on this site to see if I could find anything to help a poster who was having trouble with his display. I was looking for the "Preferences" page which is accessed from the "Account" page.
And, at the very top of the "Account" page is this recap of my own account.
You've posted a total of 842 threads and 40,007 replies.
Now, I have been a member here for a while, but any way you slice it, that is a LOT of use.
I'll simply suggest that anyone who reads this, please check your usage. There is a FReepathon (fund raiser) going on. Every one of those 842 threads and 40,007 replies involved cost that has to be paid for.
I could do the math and post resulting fraction of a cent that I have given to cover that cost. It would be very, very tiny.
But, it would not be zero.
Please think about it. Thank you for reading.
I so appreciate Mrs. Tell handling this chore that I try to keep my expectations low. I will save HER energy for something more important.
Free Republic is the single best source of news and information anywhere today. We are able to get information from an infinite number of sources, posted by thousands of Freepers all trying to put up the most interesting tidbit the quickest. You know that many times we’ll see a breaking news story here on Free Republic before you’ll see it anywhere else. I am very thankful for this forum and hope it will continue for many years.
One time “off topic” use of the Honduras list (the only one I keep) for something to think about, and, as needed, act upon.
Other list keepers are urged to do the same. We have a lot of ping lists out there.
One poster gave me heck because Jim does not want to monitize the site. That's Jim and this is his baby but I'd really like to see the Robinsons make a few bucks more than what they have to ask for now. Just an thought.
I've only posted a total of 73 threads and 7,724 replies. But then I have only been here 1 1/3 years.
FR is an awesome site. I couldn't live without it very well. That's why everyone needs to donate. :-)
Jim has been very clear on all that.
The more relevant question is why the majority of users give zero, zip, nada $$. If the users were doing the right thing in decent numbers, first, there would never be a FReepathon; and secondly, the owner would be doing quite well w/o catering to advertisers.
That’s all? I could swear you’ve been pestering folks longer than that. ;)

I donate every Freep-a-Thon but my name never shows up. It used to but not anymore. I use the PayPal feature. They had my old e-mail address and I changed it this time to my curerent one AFTER I donated so maybe that was it. Or am I supposed to put my nick in the comment box?
FR is sometimes my news site because it does what Drudge does, there are articles pulled from other sites that the MSM would never report on. Plus, our posters are much smarter than the average news reader(Humblegunner completely excluded).

Couple of things, Bob.
The specific amounts are not disclosed; but donors can, if they wish, announce their own donation. For example, you could post on the FReepathon thread. “I’m sending a cashier’s check for $25,000” and everyone would know.
If you simply sent it in, when received Jim would note:
“We have incoming:
$25,000 from...whatever state you identified.”
Now, another way donors are self identified is by two lists - The Monthly Donor and the Dollar a Day.
Those lists are posted on the Freepathon along with how they work.
Monthly donors receive an e-mail notification each month.
Bob ~ you can choose to have your name on the monthly donor lists and/or the dollar a day club, you just have to let them know.
FReepmail Jim Rob or Onyx and it will be sorted out.

We rewrote that donor list program a few months ago but looks like it still has lingering problems. Will have to ask John to tinker with it some more.
