Is Dick Morris Warming Up to Herman Cain?

I heard part of a radio interview with Dick Morris the other day. He said Herman Cain was now in the 1st tier of GOP candidates (which he defined as currently being Romney, Bachmann, and Cain). He placed everyone else (including Pawlenty, Santorum, & Newt) are in the 2nd or 3rd tier.

Morris also had this to say on O’Reily about the GOP field:

…the best credentialed candidate of any of them is Cain.

In the past, Dick Morris has totally discounted Cain. Now he has Cain as one of the leading GOP candidates; and not just in vote getting ability, but in experience.

Whether you like Dick Morris or not isn’t the point here. The point is that he is an inside-the-beltway guy, and he has done a 180 on Herman Cain. It’s an early positive sign that we’re making inroads with mainstream Republicans—the kind that previously haven’t taken Herman Cain seriously.

This is a good sign for Herman Cain’s chances, and it shows that our work isn’t in vain. We’re making progress—a little at a time, but we are making progress.

If Morris has a talent, it’s knowing which way the wind is blowing.

All I know is if the established starts warming up to “my candidate” then I would reevaluate my candidate!

One of Cains ides that absolutely rocks with me is his idea to get rid of the IRS and switch to a value added tax. That gets everyone to pay tax. There is no way around it. Criminals who sell dope for a living will be paying taxes every time they buy something in any business.

So a pizza salesman is indistinguishable from a CEO of a large pizza chain in your mind?

you might have to explain what a “CEO” is to get an answer.

It’s all fine and dandy to have the right views on things, but you have to work with people, some who oppose you, in order to get things done...a CEO does just that. A Senator just has to vote on things, unless you are a Majority Leader, you don’t necessarily have to work and play well with others, that’s why Senators make for horrible Presidential candidates.

“Why should I vote for a pizza salesman??”

If that is your summation of Herman Cain, are you really that uninformed?

Yes, he “sold pizzas” and was very good at it. But Cain is far more than a salesman, or even a business manager. He is a LEADER and one with good values and great ideas.

He also is neither a politician nor a lawyer!

You make a declaration that he can’t win then you ask why you should vote for him? Make up your mind. I’ll answer your question because I believe he can win.

He is gaining name recognition faster than fleas take over a freshly bathed dog. He is a man who has signed the front of thousands of paychecks. He knows how to determine if a company and the local market is healthy enough to hire new employees. Which means he knows what is necessary to correct a sick economic market and changing how we are taxed is one of them.

My turn for a question. What politicians do you know have that experience?

You obviously don't know anything about Cain, his background, capabilities, and achievements or you wouldn't make such an uneducated statement. You have posted similar unkind and illogical ones before. If you don't like Cain, please let it be for a legitimate, informed reason. Don't pick some Liberal logic. FReepers appreciate comments that give us some information we might not have known before. What you write adds nothing.

And, if you don't like Cain, and that is your right...then why do you keep reading the posts on FR that tell about him? To me, if he is not your chosen candidate, you are wasting your time. Or, are you just trying to be confrontational? Either way, it makes no sense and just sounds like the posts at the DU.

Dick Morris is a toe sucking moron. He is never right about anything. He hasn’t been “inside the beltway” in a decade and he’s probably just hoping you’re dumb enough to buy one of his stupid books.

In 2008 this weasel predicted a Clinton vs. Rice presidential race. He actually wrote a book about it.

Cain has no chance but even if he did Morris would be the last to know.

One of Cains ides that absolutely rocks with me is his idea to get rid of the IRS and switch to a value added tax.

IMHO...

Balanced budget Amendment - if well designed - is necessary as is stripping whole Departments out. But of course at this stage no candidate can say that without "the machine" branding them a "flake" and marginalizing them, i.e., destroying their campaign before it gets off the ground. Consequently, we may hear various ideas right now that play well with voters but may not ever be enacted. Of course, the deciding factor for legislation will be the makeup of Congress, i.e., how may Tea Party and super-conservatives are elected, and how many far lefties are dumped in 2012.

There are a lot of ideas out there, Herman is throwing a few around which hopefully will get him elected. The only important point is really a dramatic shrinking of the Federal government. If Federal spending is cut by 90% and personal liberties are restored, taxes will become a very small expense in life no matter what the tax mechanisms are. It's just necessary right now for candidates to avoid publicly saying that they plan on slashing the Federal bureaucracy payrolls and contractor bonanza, or half of corporate America and all government employees will try to bury such a campaign.

Income Tax and the IRS could always be brought back if it is abolished - that's always been my fear with completely elminating it and replacing it - we'd wind up simply adding a new VAT tax. VAT could well end up placing a large burden on low income earners and those who are retired and on a fixed, low income, since it would cause higher prices on all goods. The net result could be even more wealth redistribution schemes than we have now to counterbalance the shifted tax burden.

The only way to ensure that high taxes do not burden our nation's citizens is to a) reduce government spending to only what was collected in tax revenue the prior year and b) greatly reign in the ability for the the Federal government to borrow. Changing taxing mechanisms is like fighting over the bill at the restaurant, when what was needed was to only spend on the meal what could easily be afforded.
