Liberal radio and TV host Thom Hartmann has been engaged in a bit of a feud with Glenn Becks The Blaze website over comments Hartmann made on his cable show The Big Picture. A few weeks ago, Hartmann suggested that President Obama retaliate against GOP opposition to raising the debt ceiling by having Tim Geithner cut funding to red states. The Blaze accused him of wanting to starve people in red states.
Hartmann now notes that Fox News Brit Hume has taken notice of the possible strategy, and suggests taking a step thatll really hurt Republicans: closing all those buildings named after Ronald Reagan.
According to the GAO, if the debt ceiling is not raised, the Treasury Secretary has sole authority to decide which obligations get paid, and which do not. Hartmanns idea, then is for the President, through Geithner, to pressure Republicans by cutting off funding to Republican states and districts first, and let those GOP congressmen explain to their constituents why their food stamp cards dont work, why their Social Security checks arent arriving, and the road repairs are all stopped, and half their schools are closing.
He called it a chainsaw in the budgetary knife fight.
The Blaze zeroed in on the food stamps comment, and accused Hartmann of advocating mass starvation. On Thursday nights The Big Picture, Hartmann took exception to The Blazes accusation, doubled down with his Reagan building suggestion, and also noted that Fox News Brit Hume has cottoned on to the same strategic possibility:

I am for that. Good idea. Lets take him up on it.
How about Hartmann just close’ his pie-hole instead?
And you say Hartmann is allowed out of the hospital and is free to go on the air and spew drivel.
Gad.
Yes, you could beat that jackass, 2ndDivisionVet.
There is stupidity on both sides of this “argument.”
How is cutting off food stamp money going to “starve” anyone in this country? It’s not happening. Have you looked at how “healthy” many of the people on “food stamps” are? Give me a break.
This liberal talker only displays the typical evil mindset of the Left. In truth, they don’t care a whit about the “poor” or “underpriveleged.” They only care about their evil POWER, the schmucks.
Ron would be proud to save us money.
Close ‘em.
should have stopped after “buildings”
Time to rename the buildings for the EPA, FCC, IRS and many others after Ronald Reagan.
When you cut off a district, they can stop paying taxes right??
Shut down Reagan National eh? That would inconvenience an awful lot of DC libs I am sure.
Too modest a proposal.
I suggest closing all government buildings named after any president, Federal, State or local.
Who is Hartmann and why should we give a shit? He sounds like a typical leftist class warfare proponent.
I’ve got an idea. How about the Republicans in the House, which they control, cut all funding for programs in Democrat controlled states and cities? They could point out how these programs keep minorities on the “Welfare Plantation” much like crack cocaine keeps people addicted to the drug.
Then the Democrats would have to explain to their slaves that the Republicans were only playing by the Democrats playbook.
This could be interesting esp. Nov. 6, 2012.
Most of my “neighbors” are presumably on food stamps, TANF, Section 8, govt. cheese, etc. NONE of them work, yet they are able-bodied and younger than us. Many are fit but many are overweight. I’ll let you guess which ethnic group most of them belong to.
???
Why would Glenn Beck get into an internet fight with some guy nobody ever heard of?
Probably one of Glen’s interns, and it’s being blown up by the Left. LOL
...starve people in red states.
Fine with me. Taking it further: raise taxes on the blue states.
You wish! LOL
I have to disagree. Those who worship him will think this is a great idea.
As it is, the republicans are going to get blamed for everything. That’s why I can’t stand them. They think somehow they’re going to get brainwashed liberals to like them. They should be as mean as they’re accused of being. Then I’d support them.
The DU’ers love this guy. He is one of them I think.
If they fire all the government employees, I say go for it.
