The director admits he didn't invite his "right-wing" friends such as Jon Voight and Dennis Miller, while the media scrambles for seats.
PELLA, IOWA -- Reporters from around the country that have descended upon tiny Pella, Iowa for the premiere of the Sarah Palin documentary The Undefeated on Tuesday night were in for a rude awakening: So scarce are the tickets that theres no room in the theater for journalists.
The town, in fact, has been filling up rapidly since Palin confirmed shed attend the premiere with her husband, Todd. Police notified residents that the streets around the venue, the 111-year-old Pella Opera House, would be shut down beginning 13 hours prior to show time.
On Monday, organizers were still divvying up tickets to the massively oversubscribed event, and reporters some who travelled more than 1,000 miles -- were given the word that they didnt make the cut.
Organizers were scrambling Monday, though, trying to arrange a separate screening for journalists, but there were no guarantees given.
The Undefeated, from writer-director Steve Bannon, is one of two documentaries about the controversial former vice presidential candidate. The other a less flattering look at Palin -- is an untitled film from Nick Broomfield that is seeking a distributor.
Bannon has opted for a low-key premiere the hard, worn bricks of the Pella Opera House is all the red carpet I need, he said Monday though road closures and media trucks have dictated otherwise. Bannon, a U.S. Navy veteran, also enlisted some retired Navy SEALs for security detail.
Most of the 340 tickets went to Iowans and some of the commentators featured in the film, like Tammy Bruce and Sonnie Johnson. The most controversial cast member not including Palin herself is Andrew Breitbart, who is expected to be a last-minute arrival on Tuesday.
I didnt invite all my right-wing Hollywood friends, Bannon said. Jon Voight, Dennis Miller, Ill have a screening for those guys later. Id actually like them to buy a ticket, but theyre so tight And you can quote me on that, he joked.
Pella is a religiously and politically conservative town of 10,000 people that boasts three dozen churches. With those sensibilities in mind, and because the Palins will be in the audience, Bannon and company will screen the version of the film with the less offensive opening.
The Undefeated begins with celebrities David Letterman, Matt Damon, Howard Stern, Madonna, Louis C.K. and others thoroughly trashing Palin, though Tuesdays audience will be treated to bleeps instead of the more hardcore profanity used by some of the entertainers. Either way, its an intense opening made all the more menacing by the choice of music and the inclusion of a Bible verse.
The premiere includes a barbecue for 1,000 guests no media where Palin intends on mingling, though it wasnt determined yet whether shed make any public remarks.
PS, I REALLY like Cain. Hope he’s on the ticket; good man.
“And you can eat your fill of all the food you bring yourself.”
Just remembering River City. ;-D
Let me make something crystal clear to you — and it is all on THIS thread, not (against FR rules) from other threads.
Gov. Palin decided to open her movie in a little tiny town and to use resources said town could probably use otherwise,
I believe this was her ego front and forward. It also has costs.
This is my THESIS (I can help you with this concept, since you think any statement against Gov. Palin is “trolling”).
It is grounded in a conceptual framework, supported by evidence and has a proper forensic background.
So put up or shut up.
So far, all I get from your stalking is “FD2003 doesn’t like sarah (your term, I have respect for Gov. Palin), so he is a troll.” Like the whiny wittle child you are.
You couldn’t argue your way out of a paper sack.
No, it’s all in the hands of the PRODUCERS of this film, which Governor Palin had almost NOTHING whatsoever to do with, nor is she reaping any monetary benefits from; re ticket and distribution sales.
Geez, do you think Sarah planned it or the producer? Your PDS is in overdrive.
If it’s “ham-fisted” it’s on Mr. Bannon, not Governor Palin, who didn’t pick the venue. Or are you someone who believes in Palin conspiracy theories?
You have ticked me off. The only thing on this thread is you being an a$$. I will wait til it is reposted to bother reading any further. Please just stay off Sarah threads.
Your posts makes no sense at all freedumb....given the facts outweigh your comments greatly. She’s got a huge following many who are heavy hitters.
Palin doesn’t have to pull “stunts” for attention....she simply arrives on any scene and her supporters will be there time and again...and equally as much the media.
BTW the town is delighted beyond measure this is taking place there. She hasn’t “tied up” this little community...they’ve rolled out the red carpet for her arrival and that of those permoting this documentary.
It’s laughable to suggest Palin is doing this to mess with the media’s heads....their heads are already beyond messed up.....Palin brings some otherwise sanity to their confusion.
>>PS, I REALLY like Cain. Hope hes on the ticket; good man.<<
Thanks, JA.
Please see the other posts I have put on this thread as what they are. There are people, much less intelligent than you, who think attack is the same as argumentation.
I can’t help but point out to the world that they are no help to Gov. Palin. And, I get a little testy (which is why I wanted you to know I really appreciated your thoughts).
I am 100% sure that when we are done with the preliminaries you and I will be there together making sure the Conservative candidates and agenda go forward.
*sigh* Please forgive me for what you may see in the next few posts (until I just hop off the thread in exasperation)
>>You have ticked me off<<
Oh well. Alert the media. I assume you have hot “abuse” a dozen times for me DARING to tick you off.
If only you would read posts 10, 16, and 28, to you. People have tried to communicate with you and answer your "thesis" questions. Even reading the article would have answered your "thesis".
>>How so? She didn’t choose the venue, the filmmaker did.<<
Of COURSE!! She is clay in the hands of the filMmaker!
*SLAPS HEAD* Why didn’t I think of that?
I stand before you bereft — Gov. Palin controls not her destiny at ALL!!
Drapery shopping is a job she is qualified for; running the world’s only superpower not so much. (Yes, I am a hater. Sue me.)
Look............the producer of this film chose the town, the venue, and because the vast majority of tickets available, were all bought by IOWANS ( notice, please, that’s the state where it’s being shown ), with no special invites/free passes/house seats going to the media types and not even to the producer’s friends, the ONLY people who are going to be at the premiere are those who actually BOUGHT ( that’s spent money to see it ),plus the actual subject of the film and a few people who have a part in it. FYI......... Governor Palin does NOT tell her side of the story, she was asked to read part of one of her books, which she did, because there was no vocal representation of those words, and that was it, for her!
Oh come on, you can do better than that! The venue was chosen by the filmmaker and would have been the same even if she hadn’t come. It’s not her movie. Bannon has made that clear many, many times. He’s often stressed how secretive it was. The Palins had no hand in it. And this isn’t his first movie about a conservative icon. Is it that hard to admit you’re mistaken? Heck, I even provided the quote from the producer. He didn’t say “Sarah & I”, he didn’t say “Sarah suggested” he didn’t say, “I picked Pella and FORCED her to come”. You’ve done little more than snark at people on this thread, the least you can do is realize you are wrong about this. Going on about something you’ve been corrected on by a number of people makes you look like an obtuse idiot.

So sue me..................boozo, because that's my opinion!
Palin doesn't schedule her appearances or events based on the media...you're forgetting they get extremely upset because she DOES NOT inform them. She isn't playing their game...they are playing hers of their own free will.
Let's step all the way to her first appearance with McCain....they had it all planned how they would introduce her etc. But even then she was one step ahead of them and marching to her own drummer....'she simply walked out on stage' unannounced and there she was!...to every-ones astonishment and delight. I remember that very well...most do even if they weren't supporting her then. It was so "uniquely Palin" even though we couldn't see it at the time...and she's simply being Palin to this day.
What we see in Palin now has been how she is from the get go. She simply "appears" and the rest falls into place.
And we should care what you thing because...?
