Joe Ryan also posted a link to a CBSNews repeat of an AP story about this:

So let me get this straight - these government clowns, not content with shutting down our own energy production, and flooding our most productive center-continent farmland - they want to make all of Fly-Over Country a lab experiment? FIRE THEM ALL !!

Sounds like as bad an idea as ‘low-flow’ toilets were.

BAsically all our clock radios will lose track of time?

Is there anything the obama administration isn't trying to destroy?

This angers me considerably.

With all the garbage spending on Leftist pipe dreams, the things that get cut first are the very things we should be spending money on.

This is just one more level of chaos government is foisting off on us. I see this as designed decay of our infrastructure, things we should be able to rely on being pristine, above being tinkered with, none the less being marginalized to ‘save money’. B. S.

Sweeping brown-outs won’t hurt a thing./s

Watch them start breaking areas into power zones. Some will have constantly regulated power. Others, and that will be the vast majority, will be subject to the will of the wind. Literally.

And that may be the final straw for me. Half-cooked chicken really pisses me off.

First, we have this gem from Joe McLelland who heads the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (from AP article):

“Is anyone using the grid to keep track of time?” McClelland said. “Let’s see if anyone complains if we eliminate it.”

Watt's the matter with these people?

We'll be washing clothes in the rain barrel if we don't get these idiots out of office, soon.

It will also wreck the generators and any synchrnous motors turned on at the time. This story has more of an Onion flavor to it.

Many electronic devices depend on 60 Hertz power for speed regualtion, tape players, record players. This is idiocy.

I had seen the AP article yesterday. The reason to do this is to accommodate the fluctuations in the grid when solar panels and pinwheels suddenly stop. The less backup you have results in more fluctuations in frequency.

This is basically remaking the power grid to accommodate the deficiencies of alternative production from wind and solar.

America has proven to be too resilient and isn’t crumbling fast enough for the Obamites.

They have to speed up the deterioration of our infrastructure with more direct action if they are going to get us down to 3d world status before Obama is thrown into Traitors Prison.

With only a year and a half left in this term and no certainty of reelection Obama himself must be starting to panic. Can he complete the job?

I think it’s a great idea. The whole idea of timers run off of the power cycle has always been engineering bastardy. Bad design, bad engineering.

This is being done to make it cheaper to hook windmills up to the grid.

They have to realize that if you introduce this noise to the electrical system that all kinds of electronic devices will be affected. Not only that, the chances for surges when two phases come in sync spiking voltage.

Nothing is going to change. The frequency is controlled at the power plants themselves. I work at a power plant, our frequency correction built in to our local control logic operates whenever the generator rpm moves a few RPM from 3600. I see it operate at 3601 on the high side and 3597 on the low.

The power grid is made up of many chunks and hundreds of generating places

to tie two generators together and make it work or two segments of the power grid the sine wave of both have to be the same if not one is + while the other is - and they cancel out each other or fight if you will

even if the frequency's are off just a bit and they start at the same at some time one will pass the other and they will be out of phase and something will have to give
