One might expect to hear the term flake bandied about in a private conservation when talking about another person not present, but it is not a term that often comes up on Sunday morning public affairs talk shows especially so directly.
However, on Fox News Sunday, it was a description moderator Chris Wallace asked 2012 Republican presidential candidate Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann, who Wallace said has a reputation in Washington of making questionable statements, to respond to.
Finally, lets talk about Michele Bachmann because and you say its interesting, Wallace said. You say that people saw in the debate, saw you as a serious person. I dont have to tell you that you have that the rap on you in Washington is you have a history of questionable statements, some would say gaffes ranging from talking about anti-America members of Congress, to on this show a couple of months ago when you suggested that NATO airstrikes killed up to 30,000 civilians. Are you a flake?
Bachmann called the description insulting and explained why that wasnt a fair term to use to describe her.
Well, I think that would be insulting to say something like that because Im a serious person, Bachmann said. [W]hat I would say is that I am 55 years old. Ive been married 33 years. Im not only a lawyer, I have a post-doctorate degree in federal tax law from William and Mary. Ive worked in serious scholarship and in have worked in the Unites States federal tax court. My husband and I have raised five kids and 23 foster children. Weve applied ourselves to education reform. We started a charter school for at-risk kids.

He is a Fop.
How DARE that worm insult a Mother of 28 children! 5 of her own, and 23 foster ones!
Chris Wallace is becoming
another Jerry Rivers
on Faux news
I have no idea why conservatives give this jackass any time or thought. If it weren’t for his daddy, he’d be just another worthless blogger.
It was just Chris Wallace being Chris Wallace. The lefty in him just sneaks out sometimes.
An ‘honest’ journalist, one without agenda, is a fluke these days. must be genetic.
better they have beautifully coiffed hair and bright dazzling eyes to seduce you with hyperbole. (Please no HT/Medusa pics)
Stand tall, Michele.
You have as much right to be there as the next ‘Ol’ Boy.
I think he has a “little man” complex. He was aggressively rude to Bachman, but seemed to cower when speaking to Kyl.
Also he might be jealous of David Gregory. Agree with you that Wallace is a flake.
I am not impressed with Bachmann, but Wallace was out of line and offensive. Bachmann could have responded better by not using her seemingly canned statement about who she is, IMO. The 23 foster children thing is really getting old.
She has made some gaffes. The 30k killed by NATO was kind of big.
He’s just a chip off the old block. Raised a liberal by liberals, he is what he is. NOW will people quit insisting that Fox is “fair and balanced”?
Did he ever get around to apologizing or at least clearing the record of flaky Jon Stewart’s saying that “all polls agree Fox listeners are poorest informed?” If not “jerk” is far too kind; “grovelling punk” comes to mind.
Wallace was out of line, but its hard to feel too much sympathy for her when Bachmann can’t seem to muzzle Ed Rollins.
That fact as well as her refusal to make any distinctions between herself and Romney and her President Romney slip, she’s definitely not shredding the “Bachmann is a Romney stooge” meme.
She should have quoted some of Obama’s flakiest comments back at him and asked if he would question the president the same way.
He was grandstanding, proving that Jon-Jon Stewart was wrong last week in saying that Fox News was easy on Republicans.
Are you sure she wasn’t keeping a running total of civilians killed by NATO airstrikes? I mean there’s the bombing campaigns during the Wars of the Yugoslav Dissolution, in which NATO bombed among other things the Chinese Embassy in Belgrade and a bridge which civilians were crossing to go to church on Orthodox Pentecost, then bombed it again when people from the village had thronged it to help the victims of the first bombing. (Can’t bomb Muslims on their holy days, but Orthodox Christian holy days aren’t reason to stop bombing them.) Then there’s Afganistan, and now Libya.
Was it contextualized to limit the scope to a particular campaign. If not, I’m not so sure it was a gaffe.
I fired off an email telling him I was appalled at his rudeness. Asked if he planned to question Obama on his many more egregious gaffes like “57 states” and “corpsemen.” Apparently, I’m not the only one who was offended.
