The federal government has a growing interest in the eating habits of Americans for the same reason it has an interest in tobacco consumption, said Kathleen Sebelius, the secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services.
The reason is money, because three-quarters of medical-spending is driven by chronic diseases, such as obesity and tobacco-related diseases, she said.
Sebelius comments came at the tail-end of Tuesdays White House press conference where officials showcased nine new photos that must be carried on cigarette packs. Officials used a survey of 18,000 people to find the images that would have the most distressing impact on groups of smokers, including young smokers and mothers of young kids.

Yup.. the smokers tried to warn them that banning smoking all over the place was only the first step in total control of their lifestyle.. oh well.. looks like now they are coming after all the junk food addicts.

That’s interesting, because I’m finding that the more I eat the same thing every day, the better I feel and the better I look. This excessively complicated array of diet “choices” came along just at about the same time that the so-called obesity epidemic.
Careful there... it sounds like you've just said that the 1.2 million active duty military servicemen, who live off a government paycheck, are far more likely to be fat and smoke than the rest of the civilian world.
Yeah, some pot advocate was on here a few years ago laughing at the smokers for not defending the rights of pot users because he said now they’re coming for you.
