'You are insane!' The moment comedian Jon Stewart lost his cool with Fox News host Chris Wallace

It was pitched as a classic grudge match between the left and right of network television.

And when Daily Show host Jon Stewart entered the 'lions den' of Fox News Sunday with Chris Wallace, the results did not disappoint.

Despite trying to maintain his comedic detachment, Stewart lost his temper during the 15 minute interview as the two TV heavyweights battled over perceived liberal biased in the mainstream media.

The conversation started jovially, with Mr Wallace joking to Stewart: 'After months of evasion, disconnected phone numbers and press agents saying 'who are you again' it appears he has run out of excuses.'

But the atmosphere quickly turned serious as Mr Stewart, angered by questions over his own 'liberal' bias, snapped.

The audience were shown a transcript of Mr Stewart describing Fox News as a, 'relentless agenda-driven 24 hour news opinion propaganda delivery system.

Mr Wallace the asked the comedian: 'Where do you come up with this stuff.'

Stewart responded: 'Uh, it's actually quite easy.'

After repeated prodding, Wallace then played a clip of Mr Stewart comparing a video of Sarah Palin's recent bus tour to a herpes commercial.

Mr Stewart erupted: 'You're insane... Here's the difference between you and I.

'I'm a comedian first. My comedy is informed by an ideological background, there's no question about that.

But the thing that you will never understand...is that Hollywood, yeah, they're liberal, but that's not their primary motivating force. I'm not an activist. I am a comedian.'

[Snip]

Rising in temper again, he said: 'You can't understand, because of the world that you live in, that there is not a designed ideological agenda on my part to affect partisan change because that's the soup you swim in.

Actually, one of the best moments is when Wallace asks the smug Stewart if he's planning on remaking "Amos n' Andy" after he played a clip of Stewart speaking in "black voice" while making stupid jokes about Herman Cain, and Stewart gets angry and defensive, and tries to change the subject.

Mr. Stewart uses rotten grammar to boot.

I guess I take the news way too seriously to appreciate Stewarts style of “comedy”.

Even on the rare occasion he goes after a Democrat, I just can’t stomach his schtick.(clips on here are all I’ve ever seen of him)

"I'm a comedian..."

Uhmmm...don't you have to be funny to be a comedian?

Thing I can’t understand is that Stewart is not funny. Same goes for that Colbert dufus.

I think the quality of stuff in general is down so low, and they are just part of it. I can laugh at plenty of lefty comedians, these guys are just boring.

A letter from the IRS is funnier than Jon Stewart. The crop of faux-comedians on TV today (Joy Behar, Jon Stewart, David Letterman, etc) are mean rotten people. If you want to laugh and feel good, watch I Love Lucy.

Yeah, same for me. And on the rare times when he does go after a Democrat it’s only because whatever the person did is so obviously wrong, and everybody else is already talking about it- so he really has no choice. Either that or he criticizes them for “not being aggressive enough” or some lame thing like that.

The only “comedian” that found no humor in a US Congressman named Weiner sending pictures of his penis.

Oh yeah, Jon Liebowitz lived with Wiener during his cross dressing years.

Notice his funny expression, a really belly laugh. He and Colbert are more stupid than funny or political.

The left finds these guys funny. I know a couple of people who think that Colbert and Stewart are comic geniuses.

And these people seem reasonably normal, as long as you keep them off the subject of anything political.

Very strange.

I grew up with that. Don Adams was a Marine on Guadalcanal, BTW. Knocked me down when I heard it.

Chris Wallace and Jon Stewart. Hmmm. Where was the conservative in this conversation again?

Thank you for posting this.

I don’t watch television, and have not for years, never had cable, etc. I have heard about Jon Stewart, and seen some of his clips.

I nearly fell out of my chair when Steward said that no, the MSM, in general, CBS, NBC, ABC and specifically New York Times (!) is not liberally driven. Then, he denigrates Chris Wallace and people like him for being politically driven.

In watching this, I had to give credit to Chris Wallace. The blowhard Stewart began to do what liberals ALWAYS do. He began to just talk over him, speaking louder, non-stop interrupting, and at some point said “Do you think I am avoiding you?” and Chris Wallace called him on it and said “No, you are filibustering...”

Spot on.

Like all liberals, particularly Hollywood liberals, Stewart thinks he is the smartest guy in the room.

And the funniest thing (to me) is that he did not even have the gonads to stand up and say “Yeah. I have an ideological agenda.” Couldn’t even admit it to himself.

From what I’ve heard and read, it’s really true of him. There are tons of stories of him flying into a rage attack offstage over this, or that.
