Our state government has, without public discussion, decided to drain our lake that provides water for our tiny lakeside community, irrigation water to the surrounding ranches, nearest town (pop. <> 10000)that partly survives because of lake tourism, and the farms south of that town.
Overnight, our properties are worthless, our wells at risk, with a mostly retired, very low income population with no place to go.
The state is doing this to save money without any regard for lost jobs, lost tax revenue, and the devastated little people.
I found your survival list almost humorous in our situation.
I understand. It is not my list; I’m just passing on what I found. We are in worse financial shape than anyone can imagine. Obama happy talk is not helping, and this nation is leaderless.
Unfortunately, many people that work for a living can’t AFFORD to ‘survive’ a depression.
We have taken measures, but are still far from where I’d like us to be. Need to store up some food and other items. We have LOTS of ‘hardware’, but firearms and ammo make for a crappy meal when one gets hungry. Some Gold and Silver would also be nice for high end bartering.

I don't know that I'll ever be where I'd like for us to be, in this regard. Progress, not perfection, and the list is ever growing, it seems. So, too are the number of people who will rely on me and my wife if the SHTF. More to pull weeds, in the garden, I guess.
Bookmarked the site for closer reading. It is amazing to me the number of people I encounter who are essentially oblivious to what is going on around them.
It’s gonna hit them like a thunderbolt.
Where do you live? Can you get a restraining order? Can everybody band together and get a media event on this? How does draining a lake save money?

When did you first become aware of the possibility of serious declines in every aspect of the economy? Unplug the TV and cancel you cable service.
Ping.
I want to hear about this “how to grow food in an apartment” thing!
Rototilling the carpet can be a real b*tch but once you break through the neighbor’s ceiling you’re all set.
I was thinking this meant mental “depression”....which is where I’m going if I keep reading this stuff....

You’ve got the means to obtain food. Not just the commonly thought of game animals can be taken, but you can eat groundhog, raccoon, squirrel and if all else fails, possum (gag). Can you have chickens? They will survive on scraps and forage, plus they produce eggs you can either eat or you can use for barter. You need a rooster to protect your hens and to fertilize the eggs, making them even more valuable to folks wanting to barter for their own flock. You can raise chicks and keep the pullets, while raising the surplus roosters for the table.
In addition, with a little research you’d be surprised at how many native plants
are edible. Dandelion greens and the ever-present plantain can be good additions to the table.
Paying today’s grocery prices would put me in Depression.
But I don’t have to pay them.
I’ve been prepared and preparing further for years...
Coz when the SHTF, people better be prepared to have an extra bowl of thin soup, or have their neighbors kill them for theirs.
A 5-gallon bucket packed with beans and rice can feed a person two meals a day for a month. You can pack a bunch of those buckets in a single day. It's a good idea to also have one or two pantries full of canned goods to compliment that, including some canned meat and spices to cook with the beans and rice.
Thanks! Good to know!
Very good input. I've packed away many more of these than I'll ever use/need.
A food surplus is good.
