Honestly, the first thing that comes to mind when I think Department of Education is No Child Left Behind, followed by a lot of trouble coming up with what else the DOE actually does in the government. Never in my life would I have thought that it contains its own set of federal agents that apparently have the power to raid peoples homes.
Yet, thats what happened on Tuesday morning, as a California man woke to find feds from the DOE breaking down his door. And it gets uglier:
As Wright came downstairs in his boxer shorts, he said the officers barged through his front door. Wright said an officer grabbed him by the neck and led him outside on his front lawn.
He had his knee on my back and I had no idea why they were there, Wright said.
It turns out the agents had the wrong man. Not only the wrong man, but the person they were after wasnt even a man, but his estranged wife! This poor guy was popped into a police car for six hours in front of his children. I suppose its better than the team shooting him down, like happened to Iraq vet Jose Guerena last month, right?
Not really. The militarization of our federal police force(s) has gotten ridiculous. When you hear more about raids than good ol search warrants based on the fourth amendment then something is seriously wrong. Going further, there is absolutely no reason that so many federal agencies need the power to raid homes. The FBI? Sure. The DEA? Okay, I can see that in certain situations.

Good article on this issue.
Now why would one not feel that we live in a dictatorship/ Banana Republic.
Can’t wait to see them start raiding homeschoolers.
An article posted earlier says that the man lied to the press about why they were there. He was/is apparently committing fraud by taking out multiple fake student loans.

Not me, I think the Feds should always have to defer to the locals (State or Local police) to make arrest.
The Feds should have no jurisdiction inside the borders of the states. Unless the arrest is made on Federal land (a Federal court house or a Post Office) it should be made by a State, Local Police or Sheriff.
Clearly the DoEd (as opposed to the DoEn) needs to be defunded immediately after the BATF.
Who cares about investigating weiner. Where are our congresscritters about THIS misuse of government resources?
A little over 10 years ago as I was leaving the Army as a military police officer, my intent was to get into insurance fraud investigations in the private sector (where I ended up), but not wanting to close any doors, I looked into Federal investigator positions with the OPM. Even at that time (pre-9/11) I was astounded at the agencies with criminal investigator positions ranging from NOAA to the Library of Congress, to Indian Affairs, etc.
Whoever is responsible for that should lose his (their) job(s).
US-DOT starting to stop people on highways for violating FMVSS standards like headlights, window tint and other items ! At one time, I thought they would not do this but with DOEd, how much farther can US-DOT go ?
And my vehicles have the dark tinting and E-spec headlamps ! Colorado pretty well doesn’t care even though East Cast states like VA, PA and others would have a differing opinion.
> And EPA has a SWAT team. What could possibly go wrong here?
Goose-stepping Nazi goons.
Apparently, every Federal agency does.
Criminal investigator, skip-tracing and detective type work and positions are reasonable. Those are also reasonable in private business. The old “hotel dick” comes to mind, or the loss-prevention and collections departments in retail operations. Militarized or heavily armed departmental police forces a no-no. You want to serve a warrant? Go to the local Sheriff and ask him to help with whatever police action is necessary. That’s far more respectful, to the public and to the various levels of authority.
Help keep a society healthy by respecting the hierarchy of governmental authority. Let locals deal with locals.
We should eliminate most federal police and pass any needed forceful actions down to the appropriate local level.
Another reason for eliminating the Dept. of Education. It has done nothing for raising education in the country, spends billions on bureaucrats, and mistreats the citizens who fund their bloated paychecks.
There is no reason any agency other than the Justice department (FBI) to have armed personnel, especially ATF, with their checkered history. Others here have correctly stated that ALL arrests should be handled by local authorities in cooperation with and NOT under command of Federal authorities except on Federal land and structures owned or leased by government.
The whirling sound is the Founders spinning in their graves.
