Discovery's Planet Green TV network
self

Several years ago when Discovery launched Planet Green it was advertised as a TV network for the environment and all things "green." Recently I was looking for a show on my DVR's guide and stopped to take a look at what they were showing.

Even during prime time, most, if not all of the shows were re-runs of other Discovery Network programming. They aired several UFO and Area 51 specials from 2007, old episodes of American Chopper, How It's Made and a logging show. I looked at the descriptions and none were about some "green" project, just re-runs.

What happened to all the "green" shows like "Living with Ed," and "Wa$ted" and others? Not enough revenue? Lack of viewership? Lack of willing people to film?

I noticed it had “Storm Chasers” today, thats sort of, kind of, maybe, possibly loosely related to green something or other, right?

I guess its like Music and Mtv or sci-fi and SyFy

Well there's your problem.
Who in their right mind wants to hear constant *Green Weenie* BS while paying $4.00 a gallon for gasoline?
Enough is enough!

They ran through all the “green” programing the first couple weeks, now it seems to just be a hodgepodge of syndicated shows from other cable networks. I've seen shows that originally ran on Food Network, Animal Planet, Nat Geo, Science, History, TLC and of course Discovery. They probably have found that these castoff shows get higher ratings than the green crap.

Just looked at the program guide on my TiVo again for Planet Green, paying careful attention to the original air dates. I have looked at almost every show they air in the next two days. Most of them aired between 2004 and 2009, the only shows that aired in 2011 are from TLC. All of their original programming they air, which is not much, is from 2008-09. Planet Green launched in 2008.
