Will Norton was the young man who had just graduated from high school when the Joplin tornado hit. He was pulled through the sunroof of his SUV while his dad tried in vain to hold onto him. A massive search for him has been underway since last Sunday. His family is reporting tonight on Facebook that sadly his body was found today. :*(
Is there a reason God is doing this? I understand the concept of chastisement, but really, if such is needed, surely not by the Midwest.
As a Christian, I do not believe that God is *doing* this, but that God is *allowing* this to happen, that He has withdrawn so much of His protection of this country in view of the way it has turned its back on Him. :*( I pray for America every day, I think things are just going to get worse!
Perfect point and very succinct. I alos mentioned that natural disasters are the province of the Devil, he (the Devil, hence the little “he”) is called the Prince and Power of the Air for a reason.
Sometimes the Lord will cause a person who is saved to suffer; remember the Apostle Paul and his suffering. He viewed it as a reward to be able to suffer in the name of Christ. If our suffering is not directly because of persecution because of our faith, but perhaps because of an accident or illness, and throughout our suffering we keep our faith, that glorifies God. We must remember that no matter what the trial or tribulation, God will not abandon us, and he will never place a burden on us such that he will not also give us the strength to persevere throughout it.
That being said, from a national point of view, there are numerous times when God chastised Israel.
I remember when the people asked for a King like all the other nations had, and Saul was annointed King. It represented a change in the system of government of the nation of Israel. Could not America, rebelling from King George, and building their own government of, by and for the people, without a King, be abstractly related to that concept ? We now seek to not select a head of state by birth, but by our elective choice on a regular schedule. Which is better in some ways, but presents it’s own challenges, as we are still dealing with a nation of corruptible men. And as we have nationally turned away from God, we certainly have nationally experienced the problems of being more accepting of moral lapses.
Ecc 9:11 I have seen something else under the sun: The race is not to the swift or the battle to the strong, nor does food come to the wise or wealth to the brilliant or favor to the learned; but time and chance happen to them all.
The simple truth is that we should love, and cherish our loved ones like there is no tomorrow.
That being said, the parents really need all our prayers now, for this is an absolutely heart wrenching thing to happen.
When He does stuff like this, as He is doing to the world, He must have one HECK of a plan for us to carry out if he’s doing this to toughen us up.
How terrible. This young man was on my mind this week as I had a niece also graduating from high school on Tuesday.
:( Just awful.
God does not guarantee us all a peaceful old age, but God calls noone home until they have lived their purpose.
It is the challenge of the living to discover how that purposeful life has affected their own lives and how that impact can be built upon to the ultimate glorification of God.
>> Is there a reason God is doing this?
A child’s fall is not the intention of the parent. It is, however, His intention to bring us healing and comfort. JMHO.
RIP.
I'm having a hard time believing a car and one occupant sitting still for this event.
Yes! We are never alone!
Prayers up for his family and friends, and all those who suffer as a result of these storms.
How sad. At first the family had been told that their son had been brought to a hospital and they sounded so hopeful.
A tragic ending for the family but god forbid they would have never found him.
Prayers for all those suffering in our beloved country.

It is indeed very tragic.
I thought the same thing as you about what happened, and the story seems to have morphed from its beginning.
One newscast began with the "pulled through the sunroof" leader, but then talked about the vehicle rolling from the storm, and the young man going out the sun roof -- a far more plausible explanation.
The same news cast described him moving over in the back seat to put his arm around a relative just before the accident, leading to the conclusion that he was not buckled into his seat. Also in the newscast was video of him describing his joy at being given the Hummer as a present for his 16th birthday, which leads to a question about why he was in the backseat.
Connect not being buckled in with a vehicle rolling and you have a very mundane vehicle ejection fatality, albeit one that occurred during a violent storm.
In an area which is awash with personal tragedies, I wonder about the people who try to elevate a particular one with sensation. Of course, it could all be a result of the media trying to spin the story for audience.
In any case, I have deep sympathy for the family of that young man, and for all the people who have suffered losses in my home state.
