Bookmark ping to check video when I get home.
Sounds like she fared better than Gordon Smiley did back in '82.

Ouch. Thank goodness she’s okay; that crash looks quite a bit like the one that killed Tony Renna.

That one will wake a driver up.

The engineering behind those cars is amazing. A wreck like that and she walks away from it with burns on her hands.

never want to go airborne.
My wife’s cousin’s son was doing an off-season tire test at INDY in 2003, spun out, went airborne, hit a catch fence at turn 3 and died instantly.

Silvestro complained that she was a little distracted before her ill fated qualifying run, due to a slight parking difficulty she encountered on the way to the track.

Suprised to see orange flames. Methanol burned clear, you’d have to look for the heat waves. Doesn’t ethanol do the same? Or is it the gasoline denaturant in ethanol that we see? Maybe the oil burning?

After seeing this, I checked out the Swede Savage crash during the 1973 Indy 500. Even though the cars are so much better in crashes now, she's lucky she didn't get burned.

Viewing the video, its obvious something failed.
Prior to the car yawing there’s a streak of white liquid/vapor emerging from the region of the transmission as the car was exiting the turn. At that point any driver is pretty much is a passenger......
The DeLaura did its job with aplomb. Witness a walking/taling driver when everything came to a halt. But its a dramatic illustration of the inherent issues surrounding mixing high speeds with hard walls and aerodynamic “grip”. >PS

Wow. She’s lucky that car didn’t do a Kenny Brack up into the catch fence.
