Thankfully, Silvestro wasn't seriously injured in the accident, though she did suffer second-degree burns to both hands. Track crews and safety personnel rushed to her assistance and put out the blaze. She had reportedly been clocked at speeds well over 200 miles per hour just prior to the accident.

Yeah, it looked like the left-rear suspension broke.
Her team will have a hell of a time getting another car ready for the race, assuming of course Simona is cleared to race.
Yes, their chances are much better now!
I work quite a few SCCA club races locally; we recently had an incident where a Camaro hit a slow-moving car and went about 30 feet into the air and flipped a few times. The car was a complete loss, but the driver survived with a few broken ribs, a broken clavicle and a LOT of bruises. It wasn’t that long ago that a wreck of that sort would have killed the driver.
Thanks to the titanium stays and braces throughout the car it held together. He reached up to turn off the ignition and got out of the car to wait for the cops.
They came shortly and asked him where the driver's body was.
Look, some of us swear by titanium ~ it's good stuff!
Thanks. That would explain why the camera didn't jerk.
It’s amazing the crashes that many walk away from! I remember the crash John Force had a few years back in Texas.
Suprised to see orange flames. Methanol burned clear, you’d have to look for the heat waves. Doesn’t ethanol do the same? Or is it the gasoline denaturant in ethanol that we see? Maybe the oil burning?

The fuel used in Indy cars is 2% gasoline, primarily to make it unfit for human consumption. A side benefit is that it burns with a visible flame.
She did get burned. Second-degree burns covered most of the back of her right hand. Her left hand and lip had lesser burns.
They are trying to get their backup car (2003 chassis) together, but it probably won’t be too competitive. She was not cleared to drive today.
Viewing the video, its obvious something failed.
Prior to the car yawing there’s a streak of white liquid/vapor emerging from the region of the transmission as the car was exiting the turn. At that point any driver is pretty much is a passenger......
The DeLaura did its job with aplomb. Witness a walking/taling driver when everything came to a halt. But its a dramatic illustration of the inherent issues surrounding mixing high speeds with hard walls and aerodynamic “grip”. >PS
wow..
At AutoBlog it says the right rear wheel "separated itself." Whatever that means.
Only Indy 500 I ever went to. He hit the wall right in front of us at the turn, slid across the track, hit the inside wall and blew up. I clearly remember that tire shooting straight up into the air. I was 12.
Wow. She’s lucky that car didn’t do a Kenny Brack up into the catch fence.

It’s a great Blu-ray, indeed!
Glad to here she isn’t hurt too bad.
And I think with a little bit of rubbing compund that car should buff out nicely!
