Thankfully, Silvestro wasn't seriously injured in the accident, though she did suffer second-degree burns to both hands. Track crews and safety personnel rushed to her assistance and put out the blaze. She had reportedly been clocked at speeds well over 200 miles per hour just prior to the accident.

Sounds like she fared better than Gordon Smiley did back in '82.
Wow!
I won't ruin it by telling you. But I'm sure someone else will. ;-)
Everybody who races knows this is a possibility.
Nice to see a video that doesn't make you wait for the action.
did she get her pilots wings yet?
Just watched “Gran Prix”, Frankenheimer’s racing classic from 1966 (?) They didn’t even wear seatbelts back then! A lot of drivers died in those days.
And whoever was operating that camera had a set.
Lucky she didn't get her angel wings.
Ouch. Thank goodness she’s okay; that crash looks quite a bit like the one that killed Tony Renna.

The prevailing “wisdom” among drivers in those days was that it was better to be thrown from the car than to try getting out of it once it came to rest. This was back when F1 cars still used a lot of magnesium components, not to mention they carried enough fuel to complete a two-hour race.
I dont think its someone standing there with the camera, I think its remote.
Or Eddie Sachs in 1964.
The engineering behind those cars is amazing. A wreck like that and she walks away from it with burns on her hands.
Or Fireball Roberts unfortunately appropriate death.
She was booking. Something came loose and she lost it into the wall. Lucky!
never want to go airborne.
My wife’s cousin’s son was doing an off-season tire test at INDY in 2003, spun out, went airborne, hit a catch fence at turn 3 and died instantly.
There’s also something to be said for the SAFER barrier...
