Bookmark ping to check video when I get home.
Sounds like she fared better than Gordon Smiley did back in '82.

Just watched “Gran Prix”, Frankenheimer’s racing classic from 1966 (?) They didn’t even wear seatbelts back then! A lot of drivers died in those days.

Ouch. Thank goodness she’s okay; that crash looks quite a bit like the one that killed Tony Renna.

“Just watched Gran Prix, Frankenheimers racing classic from 1966 (?) They didnt even wear seatbelts back then! A lot of drivers died in those days.”
The prevailing “wisdom” among drivers in those days was that it was better to be thrown from the car than to try getting out of it once it came to rest. This was back when F1 cars still used a lot of magnesium components, not to mention they carried enough fuel to complete a two-hour race.

That one will wake a driver up.

Sounds like she fared better than Gordon Smiley did back in '82. Or Eddie Sachs in 1964.

The engineering behind those cars is amazing. A wreck like that and she walks away from it with burns on her hands.

never want to go airborne.
My wife’s cousin’s son was doing an off-season tire test at INDY in 2003, spun out, went airborne, hit a catch fence at turn 3 and died instantly.

There’s also something to be said for the SAFER barrier...
