Gingrich ‘a delusional loser’ says ‘Morning Joe’ co-host Mike Barnicle (civility alert!!)
Daily Caller ^ | 5/12/11 | Jeff Poor

Posted on 05/12/2011 6:37:28 AM PDT by markomalley

Remember earlier this year when civil discourse was en vogue in the wake of Arizona Democratic Rep. Gabrielle Giffords’ shooting in Tucson? That theme has eroded somewhat over the past several months.

On Thursday’s “Morning Joe” on MSNBC, Mika Brzezinski asked her co-host Mike Barnicle if former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich’s run would “reignite hope” for the Republican Party. And that led Barnicle, the once-accused plagiarist who resigned his position at the Boston Globe in the wake of those charges, to go off a diatribe about the former House Speaker.

“Well, they better hope not,” Barnicle said. “He is a delusional loser with an intellectual chip on his shoulder. That might be his biggest handicap in terms of the public. He has this habit, this way of prattling on about all of the ideas, all of the new ideas that he comes up with for our political system. And it’s because probably he went to like East Overshoe College or something and wants to prove that he’s smarter than anybody from the Northeast – from Harvard. He is just ridiculous. This is ridiculous. His candidacy is a joke.”

I’d take Gingrich over the delusional loser we have in the white house right now.

I won’t vote for Newt in the primary, but he would have my vote (and some of my money) in the general election against The Delusional Loser in Chief.

Newt isn't delusional. He knows he doesn't have a prayer. He can make money for himself and his buds with federal campaign dollars, however, so that's what he's doing.

You use what you got.

“...an intellectual chip on his shoulder.”

Say what you want about Newt, but he probably craps out daily more than these half-wits EVER knew in their lives

I wonder who Barnicle stole that phrase from.

Will Newt let us see his grades?

I like Newt...in small doses when he talks about the grand scheme of things, which is where he really excels. The details bore him. I’d vote for him and support him in the general with no hesitation but I’m holding out for a non-politician in the primary. Cain looks really good to me right now and I’m still open to Trump.

Barnicle is really low class. I will NEVER forget when he compared Condaleeza Rice to a DMV employee. An incredibly racist, vile thing to say.

Newt is a very bright guy but he’s not going to be the nominee and he knows it.

Doesn't have a prayer? Not sure where you get that Idea. Give it just a couple weeks and he will be the clear front runner. His announcement just put Michelle B. and Palin out. I don't think either will run now. Mitt can't escape RomneyCare, he's married to it and it's a deal breaker.
The rest of the field just doesn't't have the name recognition to compete against Newt.

Trump will see the writing on the wall and drop out early if he even gets in which I doubt he actually will.

I will go on record now. Newt will be the Republican nominee.

No I don't believe he will be either but having him in the race will make the debates a lot more interesting and he'll be able to bring issues to the fore that wouldn't otherwise get mentioned. The same role I see Ron Paul playing. John Bolton is another one who would make sure that security issues are front and center.

Then, if that's the case, I will go on the record now. Obama will have a second term.

I agree to a point.....he does have an outstanding chance of being the nominee, no doubt about it.

Yep. I once read that if you get over a certain amount of votes you get some sort of paycheck for life.

“And it’s because probably he went to like East Overshoe College or something and wants to prove that he’s smarter than anybody from the Northeast – from Harvard.”

This is somewhat amusing in that there are few places on earth that have more of an ‘intellectual’ / ‘academic’ chip on the shoulder than Boston and much of the elitist Northeast. The above quote from Barnacle underscores this.

There are smart people at Harvard, and smart people at U Mass, and smart people at Southern Illinois University, and smart people who never went to college. Further, because of the penchant of elite (often synonymous with elitist) Northeast universities to try to appear progressive and cast themselves as engineers of social justice, they often select people who aren’t that academically stellar but who fit into other boxes.

That said, coming from a recognized Northeast university is in no way documentation that you are exceptionally smart or knowledgeable. When you combine that with arrogance, which is exactly what Barnacle was exemplifying, you have a great recipe for self-perpetuated blind stupidity.

I sure hope you’re wrong. Newt sucks, big time. I love the “I cheated on my wife for the good of the country” spiel. He sure has a pretty high opinion of himself.
