White House asked California paper to take out unflattering remark about First Lady

A small weekly paper in California claims that a White House official asked it to remove a sentence from a “benign” feature about Marine One because it reflected poorly on first lady Michelle Obama.

In an email to The Daily Caller, Gina Channell-Allen, president of the Pleasanton Weekly in Pleasanton, California, said that her paper “received a call from the White House asking us to take out part of the story because it reflected poorly on the First Lady.”

The story in question was a soft feature about Marine One titled, “Inside Marine One, President Obama’s helicopter,” that ran in the paper on April 20. Pleasanton staffer Amory Gutierrez “didn’t get to ride in ‘Marine One,’” she wrote in her story, “but I did get the VIP tour and took photographs of the otherwise unseen aircraft.”

She also wrote a sentence that the White House thought made FLOTUS look snooty.

“Basically the reporter said that the First Lady didn’t speak to the pilots but acknowledged them by making eye contact,” Allen wrote in her email.

Allen says she “complied” with the White House’s request “because it was not worth making a fuss over.”

She added, “I thought it was interesting, though, that the [White House] was concerned enough about image to contact a little weekly paper in Pleasanton.”

The White House communications office did not return requests for comment.

Allen said she emailed TheDC after reading about the San Francisco Chronicle’s recent spat with the White House communications office.

BEFORE the paper went to print?
How did the White House get a pre-print copy and do they do that regularly somehow?

Anything portraying Dear Leader [or his consort] in a negative light must be censored?
WOW, that kind of crap normally only happens in dictatorships.
Notice the press was free to portray Dubya and Mrs Dubya in a negative light any day they wanted to?

She should now write: “I noticed the pilots starting to panic because they couldn’t get the chopper off the ground due to the First Lady’s fat arse!”

I suspect it had something to do with the reporter's friend who set up the tour.

The helicopter is humongous. I received clearance to see this big aircraft because a high school friend is the Communication System Operator (CSO), the person who receives and makes communications for the President while in flight. Since my dear friend set up the VIP tour,

That the reporter has now made an issue of it is not going to help out the friends career any.

Have any newspapers made note of moochelle’s perpetual scowl? Time to start. Mention her expensive fatty meals and how she wants kids to eat only veggies too.

I can’t believe the paper complied.

I can. They were probably told that the Justice Department, Labor Department and IRS would be sending some nice folks out to chat in a few days if they refuse to edit the story.

The pilots are by now quite used to the sudden tilt and lowering of the chopper when Moochelle makes her entry.
