This Easter, I took my sons into the city to see Sent by God, a musical passion play, at Times Square Church. What a fantastic experience, and what a great church! There was an overflow crowd of people from every walk of life, gathered there in Times Square, to celebrate our risen Messiah.
If you haven't heard of Times Square Church, it was founded by Dave Wilkerson, whose story was told in The Cross and the Switchblade, a movie starring Pat Boone, that I only recommend for viewers who have a high tolerance for cheese... as in super-cheesy. The book was much better. Nonetheless, the church is a pretty special place, and that's evident as soon as you walk in. If you're ever in NYC on a Sunday, you could find a lot of worse places to worship.
They also have a pretty fantastic music program. I guess you expect that on Broadway. They opened with one of my all-time favorites, and I've been humming it all day. I hope you and your family had as great an Easter Sunday as we did.
The nice lady sitting next to me mentioned that they are having some kind of an event for Pastor Wilkerson’s 80th birthday, coming soon. My office is only a couple of blocks from the church, and I saw their posters around for this Easter presentation. I’m really glad me and the boys decided to venture in.
