Republicans waive the white flag of surrender

Once again the Republican leadership caves and then tries to tell us they won. Just six weeks ago our mealy-mouthed leadership told us they were going to cut $100 billion from this year’s budget. A few short weeks later the gutless wonders leading our party reduced that number to $60 billiondollars. Then late last night the well tanned amoeba, John Boehner caved to the socialist-in-chief and settled on $38 billion.

Boehner has been tooting his own horn saying that this is the largest budget cut in history. Well of course it’s the largest cut in history, you fools in Congress have spent the last decade spending the taxpayer’s money like a crack addict. The fact is that $38 billion is only equal to one-percent of this years budget and doesn’t come anywhere close to covering this year’s projected $1.3 trillion deficit.

There in lies the problem no matter how much we want to cut the budget. The house is only 1/3 of the process needed.

Wrong. All spending must start in the House. The Republicans control the House. They have 100% of the authority needed to stop funding of anything or everything. That our effete Republican "leadership" is too weak to use this power is the problem.

Maybe then they should not have made campaign promises they KNEW they could not keep. ...or maybe we should not have bothered to give it to them..maybe we should let the dems have it back if it is so unimportant

To those who say we take what we can get now and wait for the next elections to take over the Senate...

Our debt increases 4 billion per DAY (since 2007). Every day we wait makes things that much worse, for all of us.

Next, one assumes we take over the Senate in 2012. The chances of the GOP taking control of the White House or Senate is at best 50/50. What happens if we don’t take either, tread water for 2 or 4 more years?

We have no more money, and the GOP had the perfect chance to drive that point home, but Boehner caved. Since he caved this time, I think the chances are about 100% that he’ll cave on the debt limit and on the next budget. He doesn’t inspire confidence in me.

The GOP should have shut down the govt. and then go nationwide and tell us all what we don’t want to hear. With proper graphs and honest numbers, even some dems would begin to understand.

The time for patience is over. It’s time to let people know that the gravy train is gone, forever. EVERYONE is going to have to suffer, the rich and the poor, and programs will have to be cut, or eliminated, even the ones you like or benefit from. If that results in massive protests or riots, so be it, we’re not far from that as it is now. If the troops don’t get paid for a week, or a month, so be it, they enlisted so they’re stuck where they are.

We can keep hoping things get better or we can face reality. With a 55 trillion dollar debt, there is no possible way for things to continue as they have been. We need to cut the federal govt. at least 25%, cut the budget across the board at least that much, and let the chips fall where they may.

Let’s do it....for the children....

Wrong only if you are proposing a total Government Shutdown. But that is a lose lose for the Conservatives in 2012 it will be a disaster. The Repubs cannot control the Press and even it they could the Majority of America would still blame them.

Every body wants the cuts as long as it effects someone else just dont touch mine. The Dems are masters at playing that song.

You can stomp off to your room and pout if you want, but an all-or-nothing attitude will not prevail in the long run. I would liked to have had more, but this will do for a start.

The whitehouse really wanted a shut down, but they didn’t get it. I would say that one point constitutes a victory.

Aside from a pitiful $38 billion the white house and democrats got exactly what they wanted another bloated budget and the republicans got what out of this? The only ones happy with this turd are the RINO’s, that ought to tell you something.

That’s your version of events that haven’t happened.

The Republicans have the high ground on this the whole way, but they still pu$$ed out.

This fear of being blamed is exactly why weaklings like Crybaby Boehner cringe before the Dems. You can't lead by fear. If we don't get a real leader soon who will not cower before the MSM and the Dems, there is little hope for change.

Call if my lack of confidence in the Last 2 gimmie generations. My belief is if the Republican go Nuclear with a shutdown now we will just hand them back everything with interest in 2012.

Rather work on our own majority then we can force the issue after 2012. But the hour is definitely getting very late.

De-funding the already declared unconstitutional Obamahcare & the liberals’ holy grail call Planned Parenthood, is a victory I can live with.

What complete nonsense. What did you expect? A complete turn back to a balanced budget in one negotiation? Boehner got more then the Dems said they would give and got them to guarantee that the repeal of Obamacare vote would be brought to the Senate floor and the de-funding of Planned Parenthood to the floor. The last two are huge. Forcing the vote on Obamacare could well gain us the additional seats to take over the Senate and Presidency in 2012. Let’s wait to see what happens to judge.

Ticonderoga. Trenton. King’s Mountain.
There are many more—but my American history is 25 years old. One needs to maintain a pace if one is to gain full victory. These cuts are laughable. If they can manage $750 billion more next year and pick up the pace from there we may salvage things, but the additional interest on the additional 1.4 trillion in debt, if rates go to 5.4%, would equal the $750 billion—and we still have interest to pay on the other $14 trillion—if rates jump 3%, that is another $420 billion a year. $39 billion is chump change. If inflation takes off before things are brought under control, we are toast.

They waived their right to a white flag and chose a green one instead.

Wow. And I thought the Democrats drank a lot of Kool-aid. That "historic" cut was gobbled up in less than the time it took to negotiate. It was a 1% cut in a budget that is 40% money we don't have. The GOP and Obama agreed to spend more borrowed money than the entire 1990 federal budget combined.

What part of "unsustainable" and "bankrupt" do you GOPbots not understand?

Even Mark Levin gets it: Mark Levin Talks Budget Deal

BTW, this fight isn't between the Republicans and Democrats. It's between the Ruling Class and the taxpayers. They won, we lost. They have theirs, and we're left to pay for it all.

Die-hard conservatives thought that if I couldn’t get everything I asked for, I should jump off the cliff with the flag flying-go down in flames. No, if I can get 70 or 80 percent of what it is I’m trying to get ... I’ll take that and then continue to try to get the rest in the future. — Ronald Reagan

As the dust has settled things have gotten worse: Not only was the goal insufficient, they settled for -17% of the pathetic goal. This is not 70 or 80%
