Republicans control one half of one third of the government.
Everything you stated, while fantastic, would get killed in the Senate.
Until the tea party gets 61 seats in the Senate, the White House and a large majority in the House, what you are suggesting is a pipe dream
I guess I am a dreamer and an idealist. But I fear for our republic!
You hit the nail on the head. We are not in control. I guess making all the people who depend on HUD, IRS refunds, and other legitimate federal sources for food and shelter would be so happy with a shut down, they would help give us the votes we need to really make a difference. Yeah, right.
We have to live in the real world . Boehner did as well as possible.
When pigs fly the Republicans will control 61 in the Senate, own the White House and the H of Reps. Actually, they would need 70 in the Senate to have 61 votes. The House of Representatives has only one job to do in this type of instance, shut down the govt until the budget is balanced. CRASH the FED, lay it at the feet of the Democrats and walk away. I don’t care if they ever get voted into office again, if the do this one thing they are winners. You and I both know that the budget is out of control, if not now, when? We don’t have 5 years, we have maybe 3 before the dollar is dumped as the global currency, and we crash anyway.
autingirl.....while I laud and agree with your sentiments entirely, MadIsh32 nailed it right off. We can’t get spit done until we ‘own’ the Senate and the WH as well as the House. That’s just a fact.
If nothing else, this should galvanize this country come November.
There goes the ‘realistic’ thinking that they keep bringing up. Look, it is what it is and yes, technically you’re right. So what? The House is the ONLY agency that can enact legislation that is financial, period. The Senate is only allowed to vote on financial matters that House First passes. So, in the end, the HOUSE controls what gets put forth to the Senate and ultimately to what the President can either sign or Veto. So your argument, and thus Boehner’s, et al argument about caving is specious.
True, EXCEPT that all spending comes from the House...that gives them an edge.
It is now time to pull out the big guns and let them have it.
Fine--Bring it to the Senate. Make them vote. Make them GO ON RECORD. Then flog them with their votes in the election campaign.
It is not a waste of time to send bills to the Senate that will be defeated. The democrats will have a choice. Pass the bill, or vote against the will of the people.
