The Proud Heritage of American hispanics
self ^ | 4/3/11 | self

There is a proud and long history of American hispanics in the United States.

The highest honor an American can win is the Congresional Medal of Honor. General officers stand at attention when a CMH recipient enters the room. A CMH winner deserves our highest honor because they were unusually brave (saw the danger and disregarded it) or showed exceptional valor (in spite of the odds, kicked ass) in the performance of their duties or both.

There have been 43 men who have won the Congressional Medal of Honor who were "hispanic". Of those, 3 men were named "Jose". That makes Jose an American hero's name.

I detest ILLEGALS. I want them all deported, along with their anchor babies. At the same time, I respect (and rejoice in the fact) that we Americans are mongrels. We have the blood of hundreds of ethnic groups in our veins. And we have the contributions of hundreds of ethnic groups to our American culture.

Three of the signatories to the Texas Declaration of Independece were named Navarro, Ruis and de Zavala, hardly "anglo" surnames. They were and are Texas heroes.

My known heritage is Irish, English and Dutch. But seeing as some of "my people" have been here since before the Revolution, it's damn likely my heritage includes black and native American as well.

We should not allow the 'Rats to partition us off into little groups they can exploit. We are proud Americans, regardless of our ethnic history. The American heroes named Jose or Juan are clearly as much deserving of my respect as any American hero named John or James.

Let us never forget there are many AMERICAN heroes with hispanic names. I would consider it a higher honor to shine the shoes of a CMH winner than to have dinner with the President of the United States.

While I detest ILLEGALS, let's not conflate them (as the left does) with Americans of hispanic descent. Because some of them are American heroes !

Agreed. I wish the first three sentences weren’t necessary though.

It’s demeaning to me to continually have to prove it’s not about race.

Please pardon me for playing hit and run. My wife and I are off to see the Texas wildflowers on the way from Houston to Brenham (where they make Bluebell Ice Cream).

I posted this because I want to distinguish my detestation of ILLEGALS from my respect and appreciation for the contributions of Americans of hispanic descent.

The former are parasites: the latter offer a rich contribution to American culture.

That’s a hell of a difference. Let’s not forget it as we strive to expell all ILLEGALS and their anchor babies.

I don’t equate any ethnicity to my name at all. I am an American.

Disgustingly, Wikipedia makes that distinction. But after all the times I’ve badmouthed “Jose”s, (due to illegals), it’s justice on my ass to have to recognize that three of America’s top HEROES were named Jose.

Jose is the name of at least three AMERICAN heroes.

May I be worthy to sometime shine their shoes !

Obama? Hell, I'd put shoes on my dog and shine them before I'd eat with Obama.

That, madam, is the American ideal. You, obviously, are smart enough to understand it. Many, increasingly, are not.

We need to confront those who don't understand and try to help them see the light.

It's what makes us AMERICANS !

I posted this because I was ignorant of the military contributions of American hispanics. I had no statistics on how many of our American heroes were of hispanic descent.

We have bazillions of ILLEGALS who should be either deported or imprisnoned.

But I think it’s a good thing to consider just how many hispanic AMERICANS contributed positively to our history and our culture.

They have contributed to our history and culture... Illegals are hard for Hispanic Americans too... Hispanics who came here legally are tarred with the same brush as the illegals - and many have contributed in meaningful ways to our culture. It's not fair.

Forty-three men of Hispanic heritage have been awarded the Medal of Honor. Of the forty-three Medals of Honor presented to Hispanics, two were presented to members of the United States Navy, thirteen to members of the United States Marine Corps and twenty-eight to members of the United States Army. Twenty-five Medals of Honor were presented posthumously.[2][not in citation given]
