President Obama takes swipe at Bush, rewrites history in speech on Libya

Apparently, liberals are incapable of giving a speech without bashing former President Bush. President Obama is no exception.

While addressing the nation on the military action in Libya, the President took a gratuitous jab at the former President - and attempted to rewrite history in the process.

According to a transcript at the White House website, the President said:

The task that I assigned our forces -– to protect the Libyan people from immediate danger, and to establish a no-fly zone -– carries with it a U.N. mandate and international support. It’s also what the Libyan opposition asked us to do. If we tried to overthrow Qaddafi by force, our coalition would splinter. We would likely have to put U.S. troops on the ground to accomplish that mission, or risk killing many civilians from the air. The dangers faced by our men and women in uniform would be far greater. So would the costs and our share of the responsibility for what comes next.

To be blunt, we went down that road in Iraq. Thanks to the extraordinary sacrifices of our troops and the determination of our diplomats, we are hopeful about Iraq’s future. But regime change there took eight years, thousands of American and Iraqi lives, and nearly a trillion dollars. That is not something we can afford to repeat in Libya.

The President's attack on the Iraq war trivialized the sacrifices made by the thousands who served freeing the Iraqi people from the brutal regime of Saddam Hussein.

Additionally, while American forces were engaged in combat operations for eight years, it was just a little under two years from the start of "shock and awe" in March 2003 to the first democratic elections in January 2005 - not eight years as the President asserted.

The whole speech was about him and how "great" he is.

Unconstitutional from the usurper - unfortunately he doesn't have to follow our constitution since he is a British citizen!

Won’t he look stupid when we find out the “rebels” are Al Qaeda fighters. Of course, he knows that and doesn’t care.

I listened to the speech last night on the car radio. Why did Obama sound like Eddie Haskil to me? Weird

Theodore "Beaver" Cleaver: How come Eddie's such a creepy guy?
Wally Cleaver: He works at it.

The attacks on Bush two years out of his presidency prove that brack is a tired, old, worn out hag.

His is nothing but a “wag-the-dog” war anyway... circumstances forced his hand, not morals and not principles. It was only after the fact that Obamy (his handlers) came up with explanations for his actions which were glossed over in altruistic nuance (BS), which of course makes his actions moral, but everyones else’s (read Bush) immoral. What a despicable bastard he is. I guarantee you, altruism will get us killed... just watch what Kadafi does in the years to come... cause he ain’t going anywhere.

barak still attacking Bush is proof that he still doesn’t know what to do or how to do it.
Gee, that whole lack of leadership and executive experience is really a problem. I remember obama’s supporters making the claim that obama was so intelligent that he would learn on the job.

Affirmative action on parade.

It’s also what the Libyan opposition asked us to do.

Oh. So, now being anti-government is a good thing.

I often wonder why people watch these speeches. He doesn’t “do” what he “says he will do” ... not necessarily a liar, he just says what’s “good for the moment” then when things change, the speech changes. It’s always about “him” never about the SECURITY OF THE USA ... I never thought I’d say it about a President of the United States, but this guy just hasn’t a clue what he’s doing. It aggravates me that he talks with his arrogant nose in the air telling “me” how it is ... like I’m the stupid one. I suppose he has to pander to the LOW IQ folks that voted for him. What a mess.

To: al baby Excuse me? I for one am glad Tina posted this. I have not yet seen this because I have been working outside all day from and have not been in front of a computer until a few moments ago. Unlike you I am not blessed with a job that allows me to sit in front of my pc all day monitoring what others are posting on FR. Then when I do get home after dinner and spending time with my kids and wife, I finally have a few moments to surf FR. But even then I have very little time to look at what is posted, so I usually only get to read the first 10 to 20 pots, which means if this was not re-posted I would have missed it. People like you really piss me off. What kind of power trip must you be on to consider yourself the high and mighty God of who can post what when? I’ll tell you what jerk, Lets look at the friggin numbers, OK? From what I understand, there are over 370,000 registered members, and over 3 million readers per month that frequent FreeRepublic. So someone could post an article or video like this once every 8 hours for a week and still miss tens of thousands of readers who come to FR. So this makes three posts that have been posted on this. We cannot know how many views because of software trouble due to their blackout they had yesterday, but when I look back at similar video posted of dogs or cats on FR, they all seem to get about 800 to 1500 views per post (Even when they have been posted multiple times). Obviously people that frequent FR like this stuff, fact is they eat it up (even if dog hating creeps like you don’t). Now if this were a story about Obama pissed on another constitutional right of ours, we would get a minimum of 15 to 20 different posts about it. Albeit they would all be 15 or twenty different takes on the same story. Would you then also complain when that story was repeated three times? I’ll tell you what, I looked at your comment history and guess what, YOU DON”T! So why do you about this puppy video? Well forgive me for getting a bit up in arms about this, but people like you are beginning to piss me off. Who appointed you the God of post control anyway? I mean I really get a bit irked when someone complains about a simple little post about a puppy video being posted more than one time in a 24 hour period. You really must not have much of a life to be able to even notice. Tell you what, learn how to play golf and get out of your back room for a while and you may realize that a few extra posts about a puppy falling asleep in his bowl really is cute, and there really are not that many who have saw it who might like to see it. But because of jerks like you, some people are too afraid of posting things because you may get in their face about it, so many will miss things they may find interesting. Sorry for reaming you anew one, but it has been a long hot hard day, and the last thing I wanted to see was some jerk like you playing God with what I can or cannot see. 9 posted on Monday, June 07, 2010 9:50:37 PM by FredJake
