Susan G. Komen Foundation/Planned Parenthood Connection? (vanity)

Posted on 03/25/2011 7:09:17 PM PDT by pillut48

Hi, all, I've been reading some Facebook posts about TLC's "DC Cupcakes" show having an episode dedicated to the Susan G. Komen foundation called "Think Pink"--they are planning to donate $50,000 to SGK...some other folks showed up and were blasting SGK for it's ties to Planned Parenthood, which I had never heard before...thought maybe FR had a source with info for that, but a search turned up nothing.

Does anyone have any insight into the connection between these two? I've never been a fervent giver to SGK, but I have in the past...if the PP connection is for real, that ends right now. Thanks!

I guess that the SGK people have never read about the positive correlation between abortions and breast cancer.

I’m sure I’ll get flamed but I’m a walker... doing my second 60 miles in three day event this year. I know about the connection. I’m a strong pro life conservative woman and I worry about this. But money is fungible. I also believe that this organization has done a lot to find the cure for breast cancer. I’m a survivor. I have two good friends who are survivors. So I’ll keep walking but mostly because it is a good support organization and a terrific experience. I wear my precious feet and my t-shirt that says “everyone deserves a lifetime - choose life.” So we can climb into a whole and exclude all organizations who are not 100% or we can choose and celebrate life.

There's a well documented. Unfortunately, it's almost SGK has the market cornered when it comes to breast cancer research.

Thanks to all of you. I never knew. :*( I have had close scares with breast cancer, that fortunately didn’t proceed...have always heard good things about SGK, and see fundraisers for it all the time...never imagined it was so deep in with PP!! :*(

No more pink stuff for us now, thanks for all the input!

Why would anyone donate to SGK?

I don’t think they do any research themselves, don’t they just redistribute donations? How many levels of overhead are involved when they do this?

Plus they donate money to groups like Planned Parenthood. ugh

I researched the same connection about six months ago. Search Komen Planned Parenthood Connection and read the results that come up. I found on the North Texas Planned Parenthood’s own site their donations page listing many thousands from Susan G. Komen. That was only the tip of the iceburg. I also found that there was a connection between abortions increasing incidents of breast cancer, so imagine that. A self-perpetuating cycle to ensure a steady flow of blood money.

I’ve heard the same thing. I gave just a few dollars to a friend that was walking, but I won’t do so anymore. I also don’t like it when these organizations get so huge they seem to become more like a business.

I stopped giving to Komen when they had a science conference in Egypt about 3 years ago and they did not allow the Israeli scientists in. This does NOT surprise me...yet another reason not to give to them.

The Komen foundation spends donations suing other groups that use the word “Cure” in their names or fundraising materials:

“I’m a survivor.”

That’s great but that doesn’t mitigate the money relationship between Komen and PP. I will never support this organization as long as they are connected to PP.

This was 2 and not three years ago. When I sent them an email asking them to take me off their email list< they spun into overdrive. They get a LOT of Jewish support in NYC and they went crazy trying to clear this up. They are run by the same types as run Planned Parenthood and NPR, etc. etc.

The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Organization is holding a conference this week in Egypt.
No Jews are allowed.
Israel National News reported:

A United States-based organization’s conference on breast cancer awareness, to be hosted in Egypt, has been touted by international news networks as an example of “unprecedented cooperation” in the region. However, according to Channel 2 news, the celebration of unity may be premature, as Israeli doctors were told at the last minute that their invitations to participate had been rescinded.

The conference will be held in Alexandria, Egypt this week, under the auspices of the American group Susan G. Komen for the Cure – the world’s largest breast cancer advocacy organization. It is to include meetings between leading researchers from the U.S. and several Mideast countries.

Israeli doctors were invited to the event as well, and several had planned to attend. However, on Sunday night, the doctors received brief notices telling them that they were no longer invited to the conference, by order of Egyptian Health Minister Hatem el-Gabali.

The notices did not include an explanation of Gabali’s decision.
Then this:

The Susan G. Komen Foundation reversed their decision and will now allow Israeli doctors to attend their breast cancer conference in Egypt.
Atlas posted this update:

Sufficient pressure was applied and the decision has been reversed. I was just advised by Doctors Against Racism

Thank you for contacting Susan G. Komen for the Cure. We have new information from our founder, Nancy Goodman Brinker, on this situation.

Susan G. Komen for the Cure Pleased to Announce Egyptian Events to Welcome All Advocates, Including those from Israel

Statement from Nancy Goodman Brinker, Founder, Susan G. Komen for the Cure

Breast cancer advocates from the United States and across the Middle East are meeting in Egypt from October 21-27 for breast cancer awareness events. There have been reports that some of the invited participants would not be allowed to attend these events. Susan G. Komen for the Cure has now received confirmation that all advocates, regardless of their country of origin, are invited to fully participate in events to bring breast cancer to the forefront of public discussion in the Middle East.

After we received the initial report on the situation, we launched a diplomatic effort to ensure they would be able to participate. I am pleased to report that our efforts led to confirmation that all advocates would be welcome to participate in the events.

Susan G. Komen for the Cure remains steadfast in our mission to save lives and end breast cancer forever.

I’ve boycotted SGK for years. And I’ve explained it to my daughter so she won’t be fooled by the pretty pink ribbon.

I didn’t look very carefully but didn’t see anywhere that Nancy Brinker and Susan G. Komen were related as sisters.

“Nancy Brinker, founder of the Susan G. Komen Foundation, has served on the advisory board of Planned Parenthood of Dallas. In 2003, Planned Parenthood received a record $475,000 from Susan G. Komen affiliates all across the
nation, and Planned Parenthood of Dallas built a new facility costing $5 million dollars. Nancy Brinker received the Gertrude Shelburne Humanitarian Award from Planned Parenthood of North Texas in 1996. Gertrude Shelburne
established Planned Parenthood in Dallas in 1982, and was a friend of Margaret Sanger, the founder of Planned Parenthood.”

Breast Cancer Prevention Institute is the group I will give all my future support.

Also, Dr. Gerard Nadal has done a lot of work on this issue. He has a blog called Coming Home.

“Nancy Brinker, who founded SGK is a member of the advisory board of Planned Parenthood of North Texas...”

That explains it.
