Donald Trump Gets Support With Birth Certificate Strategy (cynical ploy to split conservatives?)
The Daily ^ | 3/25/2011 | Jonathan Strong

Republican pollster John McLaughlin agrees that Trump’s remarks may be part of a larger, and potentially effective, campaign strategy. “Just like Obama won the nomination as the most anti-Bush candidate, the Republican nomination is going to be won by the most anti-Obama candidate,” McLaughlin said. “He’s positioning himself to be the most aggressive candidate against Obama. If you want to win a primary that’s the way you win a primary.”

A pet theory of mine is that Trump is deliberately playing to the birther block to snuff out the true conservatives. Furthermore, the issue is likely to alienate enough "soft" Republicans, Democrats and independents to guarantee losing in the general. Nice setup if the game is to help Obama win by preemptively clearing the ballot of serious competition, and that is the MO here. Just sayin' ...

BTW, not my blog, found this first on FB.

Why would the Donald want to do that?

I’ve never thought of Trump as a conversative.

I find it very interesting that he’s one of the few people to bring up the subject. Any thoughts on his real motive?

"...cynical ploy to split conservatives?"

I don't believe it will split conservatives but it will probably split Republicans (and the so-called independents).

AND, candidly, it sounds like it may be working with you.

My guess is that it is a somewhat of a hail Mary approach. It’s the only chance he’s got.

There is no such thing as bad publicity.

I would rather see his school records and applications.

“...I would rather see his school records and applications.”

I would like to know why he forfeited his law license.
But that is sealed, of course.

I don’t trust the Donald as far as I can throw a boulder. Trump is in it for Trump, no more. Looking at his history, believe me, this will not bode well for conservatives and the gushing accolades Trump is getting from people like Rush is disturbing, to say the least.

I absolutely cannot see how this would split Republicans or Conservatives.

But I can certainly see how this would make a whole lot of "undecided" voters sit up and say, "Heeeeeeeeeyyyy ... I was lied to?"

Haha, the only record we have is of all of the parking violations he racked up when he was at Harvard Law school...he would sometimes get 2 in one day...and he never paid them until he was running. That speaks to his character now doesn’t it.

Why with me? I don’t support Trump at all. Palin, Bachmann, Huckabee, all would get my vote in a heartbeat, as compared to Trump, who I do not see as a conservative. Holding conservative principles for a lifetime produces certain verifiable evidence, a history of supporting conservative principles and issues. Up until CPAC, Trump was officially prochoice, but now, when it suits him, suddenly he’s prolife, in an instant. Fake, fake, fake. And follow the money. Jesus said it well, where your heart is, there will your treasure be. Where is Trump’s treasure? Besides himself and his empire, his gives to charities (I’ll give him that), and Chicago dems, among others. Hmmm... what might the nexus be here with Obama?

He gets a lot of publicity and he is a pretty smart guy. If he keeps up the drum beat about the Birth certificate and school records etc. he can make Obama squirm and it might gain some traction.

Hillary passed him the goods on Obama.

Your "pet theory' is BS.

Old comb-over is no match for a Michelle Bachmann... and, AND conservatives are not stupid (for the most part), ie, Tea Partiers know what they believe and cannot be schmoozed by someone who has the moral convictions of a slug. So while his entry into the fray is welcome, and his attacks on Obamy will help to knock off some of his shine, I venture to say that 99% of the conservative vote will go to someone of a more persuasive conservative stripe.

How close are Trump and the Clintons?

He may be Hillary’s last hope.

Trump doesn’t do anything without a plan.

Not questioning your conservatism but do question ‘why’ you made the assumption that Trump’s birther position is to ‘split conservatives.’

The guy wants to be president. He can obviously see this is gaining him traction and he doesn’t care what the media says about him. This is his route and he is taking it. Occam’s Razor here people.

You aren't a Conservative if this issue is not front and center. Trump has my vote unless Palin hits this issue hard. I will NOT vote for any gutless republican who is scared of being called a RACIST over this issue.
