Our energy sources should not be limited to PV/Solar.

It should be a combination of PV/Wind and many instances Geothermal.

There are also Tidal and Wave Energy, Thermal, Fuel cell, etc.

You could also use renewable energy to convert water into hydrogen which would give you fuel to power generators and cars. We should utilize renewable energy for desalinization and transport the water to its ultimate destination.

People have to realize that in order for this approach to be successful.

We need everyone on board to work together for this common goal.

The Government, Corporate America and the people of the United States must make a commitment to this cause and pursue it relentlessly.

Above all that, people have to concentrate on energy efficiency.

“It is cheaper to save energy than make energy”

Many people have to monitor their habits and be conscience of their daily habits in the use of energy and utilities. In changing your daily habits peoples can cut their energy costs between 30-60%, without any physical modification. Tests have proven for this to be correct. Imagine how much more you can conserve and save if you made some minor physical modifications.

There are many programs available to anyone which helps achieve these goals.

It is educating the public to conserve and not waste that will make the difference.

As a nation United States consumes more resources than any other country in the world.

Today’s economic crisis should serve as an impetus to implement a mission of conserving resources for all of the people in the United States. Conserve resources for our sake and the sake of future generations.

Thank you

YJ Draiman, Director of Utilities & Sustainability

Is this going to keep my house warm during a 3 day blizzard in ND? PV won't work well here except maybe in the summer (48 degrees + N latitude) Wind is either outrageously strong or not at all, and you have to keep the snow off the solar if the wind doesn't tear it loose.

This is fine for all the folks who live in warmer climates, but even then, it still isn't going to get you down the road. You need axle grease to make your wheels turn.

It is a phyical law that all energy is conserved! [one way or another] We may not like the form the conserved energy takes, but it is 'conserved' nonetheless.

The trick is to force one form of energy to become another form. The measure of effectiveness for this is efficiency. Ah! That damned word efficiency!....it is a word foreign to a tree hugging liberal. To him (or her), efficiency is making YOU pay for helping him/her feel better about himself/herself.....and efficiency be damned.

Yeah, I'd like to know how they "renew" energy? It's converted but NEVER renewed.

LOL, they renew energy by ADDING energy. I suspect you have noticed that virtually every environmental "protection" idea induces the public to consume MORE oil and gas? It's not for nothing that the Rockefeller, Pew, and Jones families are the biggest donors to "green" NGOs.

? It's converted but NEVER renewed.

Well now..that's the crux of the matter, isn't it? To answer that might involve invoking the name of whose name must not be mentioned in liberal dogma (unless it is to deny existence) - GOD. If there is anyone on this earth after having had some years on this earth to explore the elegance of its composure and the symphony of what was intended (not divined by liberals today)and plainly see this was no accident, a fluke, a happy one-in-billions outcome, then their eyes are blind and their minds undone. Wishing, hope and spending money (other peoples' money, that is) do not make a basis for implementing policies that try to subvert physical laws.

I notice you suggesting all these PIE IN THE SKy “renewable energy sources” Like Tidal... in effecitve and in efficient inland. Wind.... flat out unreliable. Solar... the technology to make this source stable and effective is not there yet and is looking like it never will be as long as enviromentalists continue to block experimental power plants for the sake of a freaking lizard.
Geo thermal? You need to drill for that... and drill deep. Guess what eco nazis to the block again... aint gonna happen until the “eco warriors” are reigned in sharp.

But I cant help seeing that you have not mentioned the one source of clean energy that can see us through to your utopian ideal.... the dreaded “nuclear” power. untilll you get you pull your head out of your rearend and realize in order to achive a future of independance from fosil fuels you need a transitional form of energy.... well lets just say that you are smoking something and aint sharing.

Also IBTZ

I would also add that even your traditional forms such as wind may have better forms, such as the suggested high-altitude tether turbine by Saul Griffith on TED, stronger, and far more efficient, wind collected, because you are so high above the ground.

http://www.ted.com/talks/saul_griffith_on_kites_as_the_future_of_renewable_energy.html

I think that even most of these types of energy have a “better” way of using them.

I would also add nuclear as a possibility, fast reactors are pretty good

Wrong. Our worst waste of energy is our electrical distribution system. Our biggest source of ‘renewable’ energy is waste heat.

Yes I’m all for efficiency. Waste not want not. But I’m also for cheap, reliable, and abundant energy and not for rationing. Not falling into the trap that we should only look at the efficiency side of things or only consider renewables.

Geo is the best long-run non-fossil source for electricity, but you cannot power a car with it.

When the laws of physics change and wind/solar can be as efficient as good old coal and oil let me know.

In the meantime I prefer to use the energy of TODAY and you can work on the energy of TOMORROW and I’ll use it TOMORROW when it’s ready for prime time. But not today, because it doesn’t work and it’s too expensive.

In the meantime post this cr@p in Bloggers/Personal. It ain’t news.
