I believe it should be a universal draft—men and women. Many would probably be in the military but there might be other ways to perform required service.
I agree - minimum two years in the military or "Americorps" type service.
I would also require at least six months duty in a third world country.
That'll teach the ungrateful SOBs what a great country America is.

Yeah, just what we need - more government control over our lives. Of course leftist ideological indoctrination will be a mandatory part of this Americorps Service. Then the suitably prepared Obama-Jungend will be sent out on such tasks as house-to-house searches for evil incandescent lightbulbs and whatever else the leftwing wackos come up with now that they have all this excess manpower to pursue their dreams.

Serving in the military? “Listen kid, you can volunteer for the Marines, spend six months in basic training and the rest of your service in Afghanistan living in dirt, or you can volunteer for Americorps and wear a nice clean uniform and sleep every night in your own bed. The pays the same in either case, but in Americorps you'll spend eight hours a day working on a computer, going through old data in order to identify people who posted on Free Republic. When you find one we pick him up and put him in one of the hard-labor reeducation camps, and you get a nice monetary bonus. Catch five, you become an ace, and get to meet personally with President Obama and her husband, former President Obama.”
