I agree - minimum two years in the military or "Americorps" type service.

I agree that it will give all Americans a common experience.

Military, maybe - because it still may be a bastion of traditional American culture. Americorp?? NO WAY. It is a Gov't sponsored community organizer. I could easily see the hands of ACORN and the Left guiding such an organization.

I agree, but whatever agency handled the civilian end would have to have the capability of getting someone placed in a third world country.
Then I'd like to see them complain about America.

Why is “giving all Americans a common experience” a good thing? My ancestors didn’t come here to join a “common experience”, they came seeking freedom to do things their own way - from worshiping God to making a living.

These ideas are always from liberal leftists who think 12 years of indoctrination isn’t enough, because too many parents counter-program their kids, and what you really need is 2 years where you’ve got them all to yourself...
