When the 8.9 magnitude earthquake hit Japan this past week, it sent shock waves all over the world. This catastrophic event hits closer to home for me; I live in Los Angeles. Those of you who follow Recovering Republican know me for my rants on conservatives, Sarah Palin and all that is unholy to progressive politics.
Its curious how these types of terrible acts of God can bring your reality into focus. Living in the Los Angeles area, the big one is always in the back of your mind. Every time I drive under an under pass, I hurry through and hope not to get caught there by a red light that seems to take forever to change.
According to seismologists, its not a matter of if, its a matter of when the big one will strike. When it does come, I dont think your political affiliation , or what color the president is will matter; you get the point. Our priorities will be reordered for us on that fateful day.
Liberal Republicans, Obama Republicans, Conservatives, Democrats, black and white, it wont matter then. Our last tragedy on 9/11 gave us pause as we reflected on what was important. On that tragic day we were all Americans. Its sad it takes a calamity of that magnitude for us to collectively get it!
I recall vividly for the next two to three weeks after the attack on the Twin Towers, we were so united. We were one people, one nation. The feeling seemed to vanish and quickly as it appeared after the attack.
The earthquake in Japan was said to be one of the four most powerful to hit planet earth since recorded history. The tragedy is further complicated by the destruction of a nuclear power plant that was destroyed. The full toll of this tragedy is yet to unfold. It may be some time before we can fully comprehend the immediate as well as collateral damage of this tragedy.
I dont know much about Japans politics, Im sure that is not what they are talking about right now. Given the acrimony with the situation in Wisconsin, the nonsensical ravings of Michele Bachman and Sarah Palin. Thats almost as scary as the nuclear meltdown in Japan.
This cataclysmic event has another dimension we cant forget. It doesnt matter where you live, who you are or how powerful you are; no one is beneath an event like the one suffered in Japan. Now that disaster has struck on an epic scale, the world community has rallied once again. As we did with Haiti and New Zealand.
World solidarity seems to be the only positive byproduct of such massive devastation. Sadly, it takes a tragedy of this magnitude to bring us together. After the shooting rampage in Tucson, President Obama asked for civil discourse. It seemed to work for a while. Perhaps we can focus on whats important in America.
We will always have our political differences, lets hope it doesnt take a major calamity to get us to work together. Republicans and Democrats need to pull together now more than ever. While the economy is improving, were still not out of the woods yet. The earthquake and tsunami that hit Japan makes our problems look insignificant. I hope we can fix things before our wake up call.
What a dink.
The operative word for liberal motivation.
The only "nonsensical ravings" seem to be coming from idiots like this on the left.
10K dead, part of a country wiped out and all this asshat can think of is “ME”.
(spits) What is it, the weather?, that makes some Califlowers such dicks?
Godless chicken sh!t liberal that's afraid of life.
“Given the acrimony with the situation in Wisconsin, the nonsensical ravings of Michele Bachman and Sarah Palin. Thats almost as scary as the nuclear meltdown in Japan.”
More evidence that liberalism is a mental disorder.
I fell asleep halfway through. How does it end?
Wow. You sure you want to go that far out on a limb?
“...its a matter of when the big one will strike. When it does come, I dont think your political affiliation , or what color the president is will matter; you get the point. Our priorities will be reordered for us on that fateful day.”
There will be a difference. I used to live in LA. South Central, East LA, Compton etc. will riot and loot. Large parts of the city will burn. OTOH, Los Feliz, Beverly Hills and Santa Monica will hunker down and wait things out. If I’m wrong, I will publically admit it.
Uh James, when the big one hits here there will be those who roll up their sleeves and do the work that needs to be done to solve the problems.....then there will be those linp wrists, standing on the sidlines, jacking their jaw, telling the rest of us how racist we are.
he needs to save up the money his mom was giving him for music lessons and spend it on a proofreader...beter yet, a ghostwriter. This was BAD writing. kack.
Wait until his life depends on his benevolent government filled with the same incompetent boobs that run the DMV.
Need some fresh drinking water in that crashed building that used to be your home? Fill out these forms... we'll put in a requisition and have the committee look into it... next month.. after the local ‘officials’ have gotten food and water for their families, comrade.
If you look up “shallow” in the dictionary, you’d find this attempt at writing as an example.
