House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) at a press conference today announced what he called an “American Energy Initiative,” legislation that would encourage more oil-and-gas exploration, streamlining of the permit process to allow the first new nuclear reactors in decades to be built, and legislation to block the EPA’s climate-change regulations. With prices at the pump up more than ten percent in just one month, Boehner criticized the Obama administration’s policies on energy, saying that the administration has “consistently blocked” domestic energy production. The GOP has criticized the Obama administration for preventing the resumption of deepwater drilling projects that the White House halted after last summer's BP oil spill.

Drill here, Drill now...in the ANWR, off the West Coast, off the Gulf coast, in the Dakotahs and with the oil shales in the Rocky Mountaians.
We have enough oil to see to our needs for over a hundred years...as we develop alternates and new technologies.
The Dems know this, but they do not want us self-sufficient. They want us (particularly Obama) beholden to nations who are belligerent towards us and want to keep down American initiative and ingenuity.
The GOP should hold up EVERYTHING, particularly all Liberal programs (which they should do anyway) and force the issue.
If we did, as Bush showed us in 2008, we would not have to wait ten years. The prices would start down immediately just as they did back then and kept falling as long as Bush continued with opening up American drilling. They got well below $2/gal until Obama was elected and reversed it all.

Solar and wind aren’t reliable. At least not yet and may never be. They are costly and they plain just don’t work as well as oil, gas and electricity.
All the time. We heard it especially with ANWR which would be online by now and supplying oil!
If we want to immediately have an effect on oil prices, Congress needs to pass legislation allowing tax credits for building, purchasing and converting vehicles to run on natural gas and credits for purchasing and installing the filling stations.
We can drill all we want, but the market price of oil can still be manipulated by a cartel or speculators. Natural gas prices are still regulated by states. An owner with a multifuel vehicle will have the choice of not buying gasoline during periods of high prices.
We currently have a monstor oversupply of natural gas with much more to come. We have so much we’re now exporting it.
And a way to kick-start natural gas is for the gov’t to convert all government vehicles to natural gas. That would be a great way to start.
Hey Boehner, how about we quit burning subsidized food in our cars? Duh.

I'm confused by this. The oil isn't recovered by "us". It's recovered by private oil companies, right? And even though the oil is recovered in the US, we don't get "dibs" on it, or any special deal, do we? Doesn't that oil go out into the global market? And isn't the price set by that market?
If all of that is true, what difference does it make where the oil comes from?
